INTRO: Iraqi opposition groups meeting in London have extended their debate on who should get seats on a committee to plan Iraq's political future if President Saddam Hussein is deposed. Correspondent Michael Drudge reports from London.

TEXT: Conference spokesman say the meeting was deadlocked Monday over who should sit on a coordinating committee that could become Iraq's transitional government if Saddam Hussein is removed from power.

There was also debate on whether a post-Hussein Iraq would be a republic or a constitutional monarchy.

Delegates say this is the sort of healthy democratic debate they would like to have someday in Baghdad. Mustafa al-Qazwini is a Shi'ite Muslim delegate at the conference.

/// AL-QAZWINI ACT ///

This is a healthy sign. We are talking about democracy and in order for us to establish a real democracy in Iraq we have to discuss all things.

/// END ACT ///

On the sidelines of the conference, American officials are trying to help mediate the disputes. But the Iraqis insist the final outcome will result from their own initiatives. (Signed)
