- COALITION FORCES STRIKE AIR DEFENSE RADAR AND SURFACE-TO-AIR MISSILE SITES 10 Oct 2002-- In response to Iraqi hostile acts against Coalition aircraft monitoring the Southern No-Fly Zone, Operation SOUTHERN WATCH Coalition aircraft used precision-guided weapons today to strike an Iraqi air defense radar site near Al Basrah, approximately 245 miles southeast of Baghdad. Coalition forces also targeted a surface-to-air missile (SAM) missile site near Tallil, approximately 160 miles southeast of Baghdad. Both strikes occurred at about 4 a.m. EDT.
