Indian Navy Aircraft Crashes Into Sea Leaving Two Missing

One survivor was rescued, and a large-scale search and rescue operation was underway to locate two more officers.

An aircraft of Indian Naval Forces crashed off the country's western coast leaving two servicemen missing, the navy reported Wednesday.

A rescue operation was launched after the Dornier aircraft plunged into the sea some 25 nautical miles off Goa state around 16:30 GMT Tuesday.

One survivor was rescued, and a large-scale search and rescue operation was underway to locate two more officers.

The aircraft took off from the Indian Navy base in Hansa on the coast of Goa.

The accident is the latest in a series of deadly disasters to hit the Indian naval forces. It comes months after a naval ship sank of the southwestern coast of India leaving one worker dead and four other missing.
