2 Corps Vietnam People's Army , also known as "Army of Huong Giang", is one of four main corps of the People's Army of Vietnam , under the Vietnam Ministry of Defense, was established on 17 May 1974 in Thua Thien (now the province of Thua Thien-Hue ).

Army 2nd Corps is a main body of the Vietnam People's Army. The first Commander and Political Commissarwere comrade Hoang Van Thai and Le Linh. The 2 Corps Commander is now has a Deputy Commander, Political Commissar, Deputy Political Commissar; the authorities in charge of the side advisory work, politics, logistics, engineering and other affiliated entities.

The United States signed the Paris Agreement, according to which in 1973 the United States should withdraw all troops home. In July 1973, the Party Central Committee adopted a resolution on military buildup toward reunification. Abiding by these resolutions, in October 1973 the Central Military Commission and the Ministry of Defense proposed the Politburo of the Central Party to approve the establishment of major corps.

Executive Resolution No. 21 of the Plenum of the Party Central Committee on strengthening the military toward unification, May 10/1973 Central Military Commission and the Ministry of Defense proposed to establish 2 Corps as a mainstay of Vietnam People's Army. Accordingly, on 17.05.1974, 2nd Corps was established in Ba Nang - Ba Long - Quang Tri. The launch of the 2nd Corps was vivid manifestation of the law of building people's armed forces, under the leadership of the Party. The main task of the Corps was involved in organizing campaigns by the power scale synergistic army, carried out major attacks to destroy enemy forces, in coordination with the local force and movement of liberate the masses of the South. To accomplish this task, requirements for the Corps were to build combat power synthesis, strong energy raid, high mobility, tactical proficiency focus synergistic forces, armed services.

In the early days 2 Corps was composed of three Infantry Division 304, 325, 324, 673 non-Division, Artillery Brigade 164, Brigade 203 tanks, 219 infantry brigade, regiment message 463 private and some other subordinate units.

Once established, the corps opened the first offensive victory in the Supreme Spirit, Son La - Mine Train, and expanded the liberated areas, defeating the counterattacking Airborne Division - the trump card of force the total amount of reserve military strategy of Saigon. In the Ho Chi Minh campaign Corps occupied the Presidential Palace and ended the puppet Government of Republic of Vietnam.
