Vladimir Zelenskiy

Vladimir ZelenskiyVladimir Zelenskiy [aka Volodymyr Zelenskiy] declared his presidential candidacy on 31 December 2018. Ukrainians did not appear to distinguish between his TV character and Zelensky. People projected the image of the fictional president in his movie into the real candidate. This is a psychological phenomenon. He launched a website on January 2 which allowed any member of the public to apply for a position in his team, stipulating that applicants must have no previous experience in politics. On New Year's Eve, Zelensky announced on the 1 + 1 channel that he would run for the presidency of Ukraine. On January 21, 2019, the political party "Servant of the People" at an extraordinary meeting unanimously decided to nominate Zelensky as a presidential candidate of Ukraine. On January 25, Zelensky submitted documents to the CEC for registration as a presidential candidate. He said that the Internet community, the people who joined the team, and the experts, worked on the election program, and called on it to complement and criticize.

"I decided to speak frankly with you, like Vladimir Zelensky. Now in Ukraine there is a situation where every Ukrainian has three ways. The first way is to live as you live, go with the flow. And this is normal, this is everyones choice. The second way is to collect your things and go to another country, earn money there, send it to your relatives and relatives. And this is also normal. But there is a third way - to try to change something in Ukraine myself. And I chose him for myself," said Zelensky.

Vladimir Zelenskiy was born on 25th of January in 1978 in Kryvyi Rih, Ukraine. His parents were professors of cybernetics. He had lived 4 years in Mongolia with his parents being a child. After high-school graduation Vladimir got into the Krivoy Rog Economic Institute of the Kiev National Economic University majoring in law science. He had never worked in the field of his qualification, despite the two months of internship. The millionaire of Jewish descent is married to a Christian and has two children. He refuses to discuss his religion. Zelensky was born in the predominantly Russian-speaking industrial city of Kryvyi Rih in central Ukraine.

The stage, filming set, creativity and production of the brilliant entertainment content - that is the core of his interests, the goal of his creative and professional development. Zelensky owns numerous professional television awards, including Teletriumphs prizes (main professional prizes of Ukrainian television).

On television, he played a president who won peoples hearts by speaking out against the establishment, vowing to end corruption, improving living standards and raising Ukraines status internationally. In the TV series "Servant of the People", Zelensky plays the role of President of Ukraine Goloborodko. Channel "1 + 1" belongs to the Ukrainian businessman Igor Kolomoisky, who has a difficult relationship with Poroshenko. According to a joint survey of the SOCIS group and the Janus Institute for Strategic Studies and Forecasts, held from March 9-14, 2019, Zelensky received the greatest support among those who are going to vote - 20.5%. The current president of Ukraine, Petro Poroshenko, would have gained 13.3% of the vote, 9.5% of respondents are ready to vote for the leader of the Batkivshchyna party, Yulia Tymoshenko. About 25.7% of those polled who come to the polling stations had not yet decided on the candidate.

Vladimir ZelenskiyLeonid Shvets, the Ukrainian journalist, noted : ".... the number of those who rushed to claim that Zelensky was not a serious candidate only confirmed him in the position of a dangerous opponent of "serious" candidates.... Zelensky is not from this sandbox at all, and he has gained popularity by scoffing at this sandbox. Now for those who are ready to support him, he embodies the carrier of "our" claims to "their" political class, and above all to the current government, personified by Poroshenko. This is a very strong position, and it is difficult to blow it off, simply pointing to the difference in the weight categories of the honored commander in chief and the young upstart. Here, lightness is an advantage. ... It's hard not to agree with the critics of Vladimir Zelensky, this is not the most serious candidate for the presidency. But even if he delivers so much headache to traditional politicians, one can only imagine what would happen to them if a truly serious new figure finally appeared. Zelensky exploits these expectations ... "

Zelenskiy is not only known for his role as a fictional president. He is the co-founder of the Kvartal 95 film studio, where he is also art director, and has proved to be a savvy businessman. For the last decade Vladimir Zelenskiy has been one of the most popular ukrainian celebrities.

Many Ukrainians feared that Ihor Kolomoisky, a self-exiled oligarch with a grudge against Poroshenko has been backing Zelensky. Kolomoisky owns the television channel that airs Zelensky's shows. According to a study by the Reuters news agency of vehicle registration databases, company ownership documents and photographic records, Kolomoisky and Zelensky intersect in other ways as well. According to the report, the two men have common business partners; Zelensky uses security staff who in the past were also seen accompanying Kolomoisky; a former Kolomoisky adviser is on Zelensky's campaign team, and; at least two vehicles used by Zelensky and his entourage are owned by people or entities linked to Kolomoisky. Both Zelensky and Kolomoisky have said their relationship is strictly professional.

The artist and producer Vladimir Zelensky, who nominated his candidacy for the presidency of Ukraine, claimed that he received in Russia only royalties for products made before 2014. In the documents of the federal budget of Russia there is a mention that the company Green Films, which is owned by the studio Kvartal 95, received a subsidy for the production of the film in 2017.

Art director of the Kvartal 95 studio, Vladimir Zelensky, filed an electronic declaration for 2017 along with documents for registration as a presidential candidate in Ukraine. It is published in the unified registry of the National Agency for the Prevention of Corruption. Zelensky declared a house in the village of Ivankovichi, Kiev region, with an area of 353.5 m, as well as a land plot in Ivankovichi with an area of 1200 m, an apartment in Kiev with an area of 131.9 m, and 25% of the apartment in the capital of 254.5 m owned by partners Sergey and Boris Shefira, 50% of an apartment in Kiev with an area of 198.6 m (co-owner is Sergey Shefir), apartments of Elena Zelenskayas wife in Yalta with an area of 129.8 m and Kiev with 284 m ; Non -residential premises in Kiev with an area of 337.8 m , co-owners of which are Elena Zelenskaya, Larisa Shefir and Elena Shefir (33.3% each ), non-residential premises in the capital with an area of 305.9 m owned by Elena Zelenskaya and Sergei Shefir (50% each) ), an apartment in the UK area of 91.9 m, which he rents with his wife, an apartment in Kiev with an area of 269.7 m, owned by the Cypriot company Aldorante Limited. Zelensky also declared Breguet, Rolex, Tag Heuer, Piaget, Bovet and his wifes wristwatches, but did not indicate their value. Zelensky owns a 2016 Range Rover, his wife a 2014 Mercedes-Benz.

On March 31, the political novice came on top among 39 presidential hopefuls in the first round of voting. On 21 April 2019, Zelensky secured more than 73 percent of ballots in the country's runoff vote with under 25 percent of voters supporting the incumbent.

Zelensky said that he supports Ukraine's aspiration to one day join the European Union and NATO. He holds Russia's President Vladimir Putin responsible for the war in Ukraine's eastern regions of Donetsk and Luhansk that has killed more than 13,000 people since it erupted in 2014. Zelensky wants Moscow to return Ukraine's annexed Crimean Peninsula and release 24 Ukrainian sailors captured by the Russian naval forces in the Black Sea last year. He said that Ukraine will continue talking to Russia in the Normandy format, the peace talks that include Germany, France, Ukraine and Russia. Zelensky also said he will reboot the Minsk Agreement that the quartet negotiated in 2015 to secure a ceasefire between Ukraine's army and the Moscow-backed separatists in the east.

After the inauguration in early June - Zelensky had to nominate the country's prime minister and the cabinet. Within weeks, he will have to jump in election mode again as Ukraine had a parliamentary vote scheduled for October 27. Without securing a majority in the parliament, Zelensky will have no chance of making any changes in the country as his reforms have to be approved by the MPs. Zelensky has to hit the ground running as Ukrainians are notoriously fickle in their enthusiasm for new leaders and grow disappointed quickly.

In reality, the first year since the 42-year-old comedic actor's election has been chock full of ups and downs and twists and turns, with plenty of serious criticism over his governing from constituents and international observers, not to mention an array of opponents. Zelenskiy has faced a number of scandals and his country has been boxed into matters ranging from the impeachment of U.S. President Donald Trump -- which stemmed largely from a telephone conversation between the two leaders in July 2019 -- and the downing of Ukraine International Airlines flight PS752 in Iran in January.

Zelenskiy was expected to oversee quick and massive arrests of corrupt officials and politicians, as well as well-known businessmen. But Ukrainian law enforcement and the judicial system has been very slow and not effective. Zelenskiy struggled to shake the influence of Ihor Kolomoyskiy, the tycoon who owns the television channel that broadcast the former actor's popular sitcom and is at least partly credited with helping to raise his profile. Zelenskiy has managed the restoration of criminal liability for illicit enrichment.

Zelensky has failed. Lack of rule of law is still the major internal challenge for Ukraine, while Russian aggression is the main external challenge. Zelenskiy vowed to break Ukraine's old system, bringing in what Zelenskiy called "new faces." Ultimately, the "new faces" failed, and Zelenskiy's first government was fired and replaced. While his popularity has fallen from the historic 70 percent support he once enjoyed, polls still put his approval rating above all his predecessors.
