Dana-M2
The Dana-M2 self-propelled gun is in combat formations of the Armed Forces of Ukraine and is crushing the Russians. Ukraine purchased Dana self-propelled artillery installations from the Czech Republic, which are already helping the Defense Forces of Ukraine destroy the invaders on the front lines.
As Defense Express learned from its own sources, it is about the purchase of a batch of Dana ShKH vz. 77 and the modern version of the Dana-M2 upgrade. The number of purchased machines and other details of the security agreement have not been disclosed.
At the end of April 2021 - beginning of May 2021, the 152-mm self-propelled gun Dana-M2 from the Czech company Excalibur Army passed functional tests in the Armed Forces of Ukraine. This was the first time when a foreign company agreed to bring its weapons to Ukraine and conduct all possible tests together with the Ukrainian military.
Ukrainian gunners were extremely positive about the possibility of the Czech self-propelled guns to stick to the terrain and do all the calculations individually. That is, each machine can act independently, and not as part of a battery or division, when all calculations are made according to the conditional average, and not for each machine separately.
"The use of a modern automated digital control system, taking into account all errors, processing data on projectiles and weather conditions, allows to significantly save the number of projectiles for destroying targets," stated the head of the commission for conducting functional tests. Adding that according to current Soviet standards, to destroy a typical target "tank in a trench", it is necessary to spend 300 152-mm shells.
In addition, the Dana-M2, in comparison with the 2C3 self-propelled gun or the D-20 towed gun, has a longer firing range with the same projectiles. Conventional Soviet high-explosive warheads have a range of 18.5 km versus 17.4 km, long-range ones with a special aerodynamic shape have a range of 20.5 km, and active-reactive ones have a range of 25.5 km, while Soviet models have a range of 20 km.
Another feature of the Czech self-propelled gun is that it has an automatic charger. It works at a rate of 4-5 shots per minute, while for the 2S3 "Acacia" or D-20 this indicator is 3-4 shots per minute. And with every minute of combat in the Soviet systems, it gradually decreases, because fighters have to carry 40-kg projectiles on their own, and in the case of "Acacia" - also while working in a cramped and gassed combat compartment.
The result of several days of tests is positive. The Dana-M2 ACS has confirmed all the declared characteristics, which is an important condition for the start of the implementation of the contract for the supply of 26 machines to the Armed Forces.
Under the terms of the framework agreement on the purchase of Dana, which, by the way, was signed back in 2018, Excalibur Army agreed to localize production in Ukraine. Therefore, representatives of the Ukrainian defense and industrial complex were also present at the training ground.
"Our task is to study the possibilities of service and technical maintenance, the production of some components and ZIPs with the further transition to large-unit assembly on the territory of Ukraine within the framework of a joint venture," said Oleg Turinskyi, director of the Shepetiv Repair Plant.
