AT4
AT4 is a light Swedish disposable anti-tank rocket launcher for destroying light tanks, armored personnel carriers, infantry self-propelled guns and other defense structures/ It weighs 7 kg and uses 84-caliber grenades, which can penetrate the armor of equipment up to 600 mm, and high-explosive fragmentation grenades - up to 1000 m. The HEDP 502 grenade allows you to destroy enemies in a building: the projectile penetrates the wall and only then explodes inside the building. The effective range is up to 700 m. The projectile flies at a speed of up to 290 m/s. There are modifications with which can safely launch indoors.
In May 2022, thanks to AT4, defenders of Mariupol destroyed the occupiers' patrol boat "Raptor" . A recoilless rifle is a lightweight form of weapon that allows the firing of a heavier projectile. Recoilless rifles are capable of firing artillery-type shells at a range and velocity comparable to that of normal light cannon, although they are typically used to fire larger shells at lower velocities and ranges.
The AT-4 is a modern 84 mm anti-tank grenade launcher manufactured in Sweden. The first copies of this weapon appeared in the early 1980s, but the weapon entered service in 1987 and remains in it today. The weapon is 102 cm long, with a grenade launcher weighing only 6.7 kilograms. The effective range of the shot is up to 300 meters, with a maximum range of about 2,000 meters. The projectile fired from this weapon has an initial velocity of 290 m/s.
AT-4 was developed by Swedish plants Förenade Fabriksverken, which are now part of Saab-Bofors Dynamics. In essence, it is a far-reaching development of the 74 mm Pansarskott m / 68 grenade launcher, which entered service with the Swedish army in the 1960s. Like its predecessor, it was designed as a light anti-tank weapon of infantry subunits, capable of engaging Soviet light and medium armored vehicles at any point in their armor, and Main Battle Tanks against the side and rear parts of their armor. The weapon turned out to be successful and entered service mainly with the US Army, which replaced the M72 LAW grenade launcher.
The main element of the anti-armour weapon AT4 is a 1,020mm long launch tube made of aluminum and fiberglass with a caliber of 84mm. Its maximum diameter is determined by external casings and protective elements and does not exceed 150mm. The weight ranges from 6.7 to 8 kg, depending on which projectile is used. The effective firing range at an “armored vehicle” type target does not exceed 300 m. With an extended-range round, this distance is twice as long, and the high-explosive fragment round is fired at 1,000 m. In general, the maximum firing range is 2,100 m.
