Marine Corps Training - History

On 01 August 1952, the merger of the Marine Corps. Staff Training Division and the ROCN Amphibious Officer Division led to the establishment of the ROCMC Academy; which serves under the ROCN headquarter. The Academic staffs include the Provost, Head of Education, and the Head of Counselor. While the Education Office, General Affair Office, non-infantry unit, advance and foundation classes, are all belong to the authority of the Head of Education.

In July 1953, the ROCMC Academy formed an additional R&D sector and the reserve officer class. Non-infantry unit were then replaced by the Comm. Officer unit. The academic staffs remain unchanged, but the authority of the Head of Education expanded to include the R&D sector, financial office, Comm. Unit, and the reserve officer class. On 16th Oct. 1953, the ROCMC Academy then moved from Taoyuan to the current location Kaohsiung, and in two months, the ROCN HQ Handed over the authority of the ROCMC Academy to the ROCMC HQ.

In January 1955 the academy was expanded to include the admin office, and On 01 April 1957 the academy was expanded to establish the new Command&Advisory division. In October 1957, English class was introduced as a necessary course in the academy, in order to establish a complete and standardized education system.

In September 1968, Command&Advisory class was categorized into the Joint Task Force University, Naval College, Marine Corps regutar a class, and formed an additional officer English class. The academic staffs remain the provost, Head of Education and the Head of Counselor. The expanding authority of the Head of Education now included the Head of Supervisor, General Affair Office, Education Admin Office, Financial Office, Advance class, Foundation class, Comm. Unit, prep class (1st & 2nd CO) and Eglish class.

In January 1974, the advance class was renamed regutar a class, foundation class was renamed Allocation class, and the prep class was expanded to include 3rd CO.

In January 1986, the ROCMC Academy was merged with the Marine Corps Sergeant School, this includes the School Board (Provost, Head of Education and the Head of secretary), Counseling division (Chief director, 2nd chief director and the counseling unit), Education division, admin division, warfare R&D unit, staff unit (on-land tactics, amphibious tactics, spec ops tactics and general warfare tactics), commanding units, medical practice, maintenance Plt. and the printing office. While the commanding units (inc. Taekwondo team) still remained in the marine Corps Sergeant school’s old address.

On 01 November 1995, the warfare R&D unit and commanding unit (2nd PLT.) were shut down. Ten months later, all of the Commanding Units (exc. The Teakwondo team) were moved to the current location.

On 01 August 1998, the authority of the ROCMC academy was handed to the Naval Education, Training and Doctrine Development Command; It was formed additional general counseling unit, warfare info center; and the warfare R&D unit was re-established.

According to the HQ order No. 1297 established on the 1st Nov 2002, the general counseling unit and the medical practice belong to the student affair office.
