CG-5001 Chiayi frigate

The Chiayi ship with a gross tonnage of 6095 metric tons is the largest maritime cruiser in the history of the Maritime Patrol Administration. It also reserves many combat facilities including missile launchers, including the construction of a helicopter warehouse, which can be used by the Navy S-70C helicopters. The mission needs to be stationed on a ship. The ship will be equipped with the latest Zhenhai rocket system (2.75 rockets) and two remote-controlled turrets for 20 machine guns. The range of water cannons is up to 120 meters, and it can be integrated on the frigate in accordance with the marine operating environment. Radar, navigation instrument, gyro compass and infrared thermal imager and other information, automatic tracking and shooting, improve the search and rescue efficiency at night.

The ship is 125 meters long, 16.5 meters wide, and endurance of more than 10,000 miles. The Huihai Patrol Agency is responsible for the five core tasks of "Maritime Security", "Maintaining Fishing Rights", "Life Saving", "Marine Conservation" and "Marine Affairs". If someone claims that the ship with a gross tonnage of 6095 metric tons is the Taiwan Ocean Commission The powerful trident for law enforcement at sea in the future is not an exaggeration! Because the gross tonnage of the Chiayi Ship CG5001 of the Maritime Patrol Administration has reached the 6000-ton class, it has surpassed the 4105 tons of the naval first-class ship Success class and the Kangding class of 4,105 tons.

The first 4,000-ton cutter of the Maritime Patrol Administration held a launching ceremony on the 02 June 2020. President Tsai Ing-wen named the "Chiayi Ship" herself. President Tsai Ing-wen, Chairman of Taiwan Shipping Company Zheng Wenlong, Secretary General of the National Security Council Gu Lixiong, Minister of Economy Wang Meihua, Chairman of the Ocean Commission Li Zhongwei, Chairman of the Retirement Council Feng Shikuan, and Deputy Secretary of the National Security Council Chief Chen Wenzheng, Mayor of Kaohsiung Chen Qimai, Director of Maritime Patrol Administration Zhou Meiwu and others hosted the joint ceremony for the delivery of the Chiayi ship, the first ship of the Chiayi-class cruiser of the Taiwan Shipping Company, and the naming and launching of the second Hsinchu ship.

The 4,000-ton frigate (CG-5001), christened “Chiayi” after the southern region in Taiwan, is the first of four ships that the Coast Guard has commissioned the CSBC Corporation to build with a total budget of NT$10.4 billion (US$344 million). The construction of the frigate is a successful example of international cooperation with a U.S. military ship manufacturer, noted President Tsai Ing-wen at the ceremony, which was held in Kaohsiung.

In her speech, Tsai Ing-wen stated that the Chiayi ship has created two new milestones. The first is the successful case of international cooperation with the legendary cruiser design manufacturer, and the second is the ship’s negative pressure isolation ward and operating room, which are used for Taiwan’s maritime medical rescue. In a coastguard first, it has "Taiwan" painted on its hull.

In her speech, Tsai Ing-wen stated that since taking office, she has actively promoted the "national shipbuilding" policy and fully supported the "planning for the development of sea patrol ships" to create newer and faster sea patrol ships to allow sea patrol brothers and sisters to be on duty It can be more secure later. She said that Taiwan not only allowed the world to see our determination to protect the country, but also allowed the domestic shipbuilding industry to step out of the global downturn in the industry, cultivate our own talents, and bring new dawn to Taiwan's shipbuilding industry. Tsai Ing-wen also announced that the 4,000-ton class cruiser built by the Taiwan Shipbuilding Company will be deployed in the "Central Region Mobile Maritime Patrol" affiliated to the Fleet Branch in the future, named "Chiayi Ship".

She said that the launch of the Chiayi Ship also set two new milestones. First, this 4,000-ton cruiser is not only a successful case of international cooperation with the designer of the legendary cruiser, but also the largest ship in active service and the construction of the China Maritime Cruiser.

She said that secondly, in addition to the function of conversion from peace to war, the Chiayi ship also has operating rooms on the ship and cabins with medical functions such as negative pressure isolation wards. Tsai Ing-wen emphasized that she believes that the investment of the "Chiayi Ship" will make the brothers and sisters of the sea patrol even more powerful. They can carry out the tasks of investigating smuggling, cruising the sea, or assisting in rescue.

Chairman Zheng Wenlong said that all employees of Taiwan Shipping Company are very grateful for the government’s national shipbuilding policy for allowing Taiwanese ships to continue to grow in the Great Depression of the shipbuilding industry. Looking to the future, national shipbuilding companies will be the main source of Taiwanese shipbuilding business. The national ship business has accounted for more than 60% of Taiwan’s annual revenue this year, and Taiwan’s ships have been inextricably linked to the national shipbuilding policy.

President Tsai Ing-wen went south on the 2nd to the Kaohsiung Factory of the Taiwan Shipbuilding Company to host the "Naming and Launching Ceremony of the First Ship of a 4,000-ton Cruiser." The site also carried out a "rolling and launching" ceremony in accordance with shipbuilding practices to pray for patrol ships still under construction.

The naming of ships used to be based on the context of China. However, in recent years, the navy and sea patrol localized the naming of warships, which has helped deepen the public's sense of identity and increase Military honor. The naming of naval patrol ships is relatively localized. For example, the 500-ton Taipei, Taichung, Keelung, Hualien, Penghu, Nantou, Golden Gate, and Lianjiang ships; the 1,000-ton Miaoli, Taoyuan, Taitung, and Pingtung ships; the 2,000-ton class Tainan ship, Xinbei ship; 3000-ton Yilan ship, Kaohsiung ship; 4000-ton Chiayi ship. In terms of counties and counties in Taiwan, only Hsinchu, Changhua, and Yunlin are left. Positive affirmation and reverberation also help deepen the public's sense of identification with the country and increase the sense of honor among soldiers.

The Taiwan Shipping Company is building four Chiayi-class frigates for the Marine Patrol Administration. This is the second time the delivery and naming ceremony of the Chiayi-class frigate of the Marine Patrol Administration was held after the naming of the Chiayi ship on June 2, 109. This type of Chiayi-class frigate has a full-load displacement of up to 5,044 tons, can withstand Class 10 strong winds, and has an endurance of 10,000 miles. It is also equipped with three sets of high-pressure water cannons with a range of 120 meters, which can be used as important equipment for the marine patrol brothers and sisters to rely on when performing tasks at sea.

Just as the government is actively promoting the epidemic prevention policy, this type of ship is equipped with sophisticated professional medical equipment, and is equipped with negative pressure isolation wards and medical operating rooms. The original general hospital beds can also be equipped with negative pressure isolation covers to reduce the risk of cross-infection and protect the health and safety of marine patrol colleagues. The helicopter landing facilities on the deck can be used for the operations of the Black Hawk helicopters of the Air Service Corps of the Ministry of the Interior and the Navy's anti-submarine helicopters, which are of great help to the maritime humanitarian rescue energy. The medical specifications of this type of ship are equivalent to the level of field hospitals, and the entire ship can also be used as a medical rescue ship to perform humanitarian rescue tasks.

The second "Hsinchu Ship" of the Chiayi-class frigate was named in accordance with the "Basic Principles for Naming Ships of the Maritime Commission of the Oceanic Commission". The Marine Patrol Agency considered the location to be the northernmost place among the names to be selected, and adjacent to the deployment of a mobile marine patrol team in the northern region, it was named "Hsinchu Ship". The main equipment of this series of ships, in addition to the main propulsion system, has more special front and rear auxiliary side thrusters and stabilizer wings, which can improve berthing maneuverability and reduce hull rolling during navigation. Go out to sea to perform duties in bad weather, and these special designs of this type of ship can help improve the hard work in the big waves.

The joint ceremony for the delivery of the first ship of the Chiayi-class frigate of the Maritime Patrol and the naming and launching of the second Hsinchu ship is an important achievement of the Taiwanese shipping company’s shipbuilding for the Maritime Patrol. The Taiwanese shipping company will also actively cooperate with China’s "Salute to the Sea" ”Policy to encourage Chinese people to “clean the sea”, “know the sea”, “offshore” and “enter the sea” and create more high-performance ships to support the Maritime Patrol Agency, implement maritime security, maintain fishing rights, life-saving rescue, marine conservation and Five core tasks including ocean affairs, effectively defending sovereignty, safeguarding fishing rights, and ensuring the safety of people’s lives and property.

Under the company’s active cooperation with the government’s national shipbuilding policy, in addition to the four-ship turnkey case of Chiayi-class frigates, 15 medium-to-100-ton patrol rescue boats have been built in the Keelung plant area and five have been delivered, respectively in Taitung, Keelung, Danshui, Penghu, Matsu and other marine patrol teams are serving on duty. In addition, 6 1,000-ton frigates are under construction. Among them, the wheel control system is developed and installed by Taiwan ships. Taiwan ships not only continuously improve ship design and construction technology, but also invest a lot of effort in the development of smart ships.

As an important promoter of the "national shipbuilding" policy, Taiwan shipping companies have worked hard to advance technology and quality. As the strongest backing for my country's national defense capabilities, they jointly protect the country and do not lose the Chinese people’s commitment to Taiwan shipping companies.

A total of four of the 4,000-ton patrol ships were ordered from the Taiwan Patrol Administration. The first "Chiayi Ship" was expected to be commissioned in December 2019, and the remaining 3 ships were expected to be completed within 5 years. The ship can withstand strong winds of level 10 and has an endurance of more than 10,000 nautical miles. In the future, it can support the transportation of epidemic prevention materials to neighboring countries and promptly invest in international humanitarian relief work. It symbolizes that Taiwan has taken a major step forward in humanitarian relief at sea.

The Chiayi frigate is part of a 10-year plan to build more than 100 “newer and faster” ships for the Coast Guard. While the frigate will be deployed to carry out such tasks as stopping illegal activities and protecting fishing vessels’ operations, it can also be transformed into a combat ship in wartime.

The frigate is equipped with rockets and machine guns and has a helipad that provides landing space for a Sikorsky UH-60 Black Hawk helicopter. The Marine Patrol Office performs sea patrol missions, and the air reconnaissance patrol must rely on the support of the Air Service Corps of the Ministry of the Interior. However, except for the main aircraft UH-60M Black Hawk helicopter, which cannot land the sea patrol ship, the Air Corps task is too numerous to fully support the mission requirements of the Sea Patrol Service. . The Marine Patrol Administration is now formally proposing proposals for self-built aviation fleets as necessary to execute "paramilitary missions" in accordance with government orders.

The Air Corps reported to the Legislative Yuan that it has received 9 UH-60M Black Hawk helicopters, but the current deck of the largest 3000-ton cruiser cannot be extended, resulting in insufficient safety distance of the tail wheel, so it cannot land on the patrol ship of the Patrol Administration. However, the Patrol Administration has stated that Maritime Patrol plans to build a new 4,000-ton class frigate flight deck design plan that can be used by the Ministry of the Interior Air Service Corps Black Hawk Helicopter (UH-60M) and Navy Anti-Submarine Helicopter Squadron S-70C for helicopter landing operations. The strength of the flight deck will also conform to the landing weight of the S-70C anti-submarine helicopter and Black Hawk helicopter, and the hangar is based on the naval S-70C anti-submarine temporary station based design and planning.

The Japanese Coast Guard PLH-class ship (Patrol Vessel Large With Helicopter), which is a total of 13 large helicopter patrol ships with a standard tonnage of about 6,500 tons. The Korean Maritime Police Agency will also Thirteen frigates of the 3,000-ton class or more Pacific class (tae pyung yang) are equipped with European-made Eurocopter AS565 Panther Cheetah helicopters. Even the Philippines, which is far less powerful in the south than Taiwan, was acquired in 2019 by the French OCEA Ship Group as the Philippines. The OPV-240 offshore patrol ship "Gabriela Silang" (OPV-8301) designed and constructed by the maritime patrol unit will become the largest maritime police patrol ship in the fleet of the Philippine maritime patrol unit and the largest all-aluminum alloy in the world.
