Coast Guard Cutters and Boats

Taiwans fisheries development has a decisive role in the international fishing business, in which more than 5,000 fishing boats operate in the Western and Central Pacific so the importance of this fishing area is increasing gradually. Hence, 4 patrols where executed by the Maritime Patrol Directorate General on high seas within the convention area of WCPFC for 358 days in 2009 and 2010.

From 2011 onwards, offshore patrol vessels that can withstand long term cruising, like the 800-ton "Shun-Hu No. 1", 400-ton "Shun-Hu No. 2", "Shun-Hu No. 3" and the 1000-ton "Shun-Hu No. 7 can execute offshore fishing patrol mission after its mechanical safety has been assessed. In addition, the Coast Guard began actively constructing two 1,000-ton patrol boats in the Coast Guard development program, thus Taiwans offshore patrol fleet will have a brand new style and can demonstrate its abilities in the international community.

The 2000-ton project is designed by the United Ship Design and Development Center. Work on the design of a new large patrol craft was launched in 2007. The contract for the construction of the lead ship was signed on 22.11.2007 year. Cutting steel for it was launched May 9, 2008. Access to the sea trials began on October 14, 2010. The ship was built by the standards of the Navy and the requirements of the specification. Its purpose - to patrol operations on the high seas, fisheries protection, search and rescue at sea, the actions in emergency situations. The superstructure of the ship's marine aluminum alloy was produced by Jade Yachts, which is a subsidiary Jong Shyn Shipbuilding Group. The ship is equipped with a non-retractable bilge stabilizers operating at low and high speed travel. Seaworthiness of the ship to 9 on the Beaufort scale. On the ship are mounted night vision system that allows you to perform rescue operations at night. The ship provides basing for a heavy (weighing up to 10 tonnes) helicopter. The ship is equipped with a crane with folding boom and rescue basket to lift saved at sea. Stern towing arrangement with a pulling force of up to 30 tons allows you to tow objects at up to 5 knots. On the ship there are four fire monitor with a range of feed water jet / foam more than 70 meters. Firefighters work at the same time pump provides two monitors. The Taiwan Coast Guard added two new patrol ships 30 March 2013 to their fleet; the 2,000-ton Xinbei and the 1,000-ton Hsun Hu No. 8, fishery patrol boats to beef up Taiwanese patrol around the disputed islands in the East China Sea.

Taiwanese Coast Guard Administration got the new Taipei class or Kaohsiung class(CG-128) High Endurance Cutter. The coast guard contracted Kaohsiung-based Jong Shyn Shipbuilding Group for the construction of the two new vessels in 2011 at a total cost of NT$5.214 billion (US$171.37 million). After completion, they were launched from Jong Shyns Kaohsiung Harbor dock on 11 February 2014 and 18 April 2014 respectively. After testing, CG-128 Yilan was commissioned by the coast guard on 20 August 2014, while CG-129 Kaohsiung was transferred at the end of October.

This new class of ships is intended capable of deep sea operations in all weather and act as a fast, reliable platform that can respond to the emerging threats in the region. the cutters, CG-128 Yilan and CG-129 Kaohsiung, both with displacements of 3,000 tons, are intended for open-sea patrols and search-and-rescue missions. They are outfitted with helicopter landing pads on the deck.
