Zavod Korpusov - Cold War
In the postwar years, the factory workers, faithful to their labor and civil traditions, took up the implementation of new tasks with even greater enthusiasm. The plant still remained one of the leaders of the domestic defense complex in the development, development and production of special-purpose products.
In the first post-war years, the Vyksa plant was completely transferred to civilian production. However, with the release of the resolution of the Council of Ministers of the USSR and the Central Committee of the CPSU in December 1949 the "peaceful respite" for the plant ended. Since March 1950, the mass production of the BTR-152 wheeled vehicle hulls, created on the basis of the ZIS-151 truck of the Moscow Automobile Plant named after M. Gorki Stalin. The BTR-152 was discontinued with the transition to the production of a new generation of wheeled armored personnel carriers. A total of 15,000 BTR-152 were produced.
Simultaneously with the BTR-152, the factory organized the production of a semi-armored crawler tractor ATP and an airborne self-propelled artillery system ASU-57 of Mytishchi machine-building plant.
By the end of the 1950s production of hulls for the Mytishchi machine-building and Moscow automobile plants was discontinued (it was transferred to other enterprises). The Vyksa plant switched to the production of hulls for wheeled armored personnel carriers of the new generation, developed at the Gorky Automobile Plant.
In 1959, the BTR-60 wheeled armored personnel carrier was adopted to equip the motorized rifle divisions and replace them with the outdated BTR-152, from which it was distinguished by significantly improved maneuverability, allowing it to follow tanks on the battlefield and the ability to swim. The BTR-60 was the first in a series of Soviet wheeled four-axle armored personnel carriers, the development and production of which is still ongoing. The BTR-60 was produced serially, repeatedly upgrading until 1976.
And then the BTR-70 is a wheeled amphibious armored personnel carrier designed for transporting personnel of motorized rifle units and their fire support, including in the conditions of use of weapons of mass destruction. The BTR-70 is a floating, circular-armored, eight-wheel with independent suspension (with all driving wheels) car, capable of following tanks, on the move to overcome trenches, trenches and water barriers. The armament consists of a 14.5 mm KPVT machine gun and a 7.62 mm PKT machine gun.
In a short time, new armored personnel carriers, released in large numbers after the 1960s, became the main combat vehicles in military units, displacing the BTR-152. The GAZ-73 (GAZ-73M) GTMU armored multipurpose conveyor-tractor can be operated in off-road conditions, as well as overcome small water obstacles. In the early 1980s, the BTR-80 was adopted, improved in view of participation in hostilities.
