Sukhoi Superjet New SSJ-NEW

Sukhoi Superjet New is a short-range narrow-body aircraft designed to replace the Sukhoi Superjet 100. The development of a new version of the Sukhoi Superjet was announced in 2018. In the modern Sukhoi Superjet 100, the share of devices brought from other countries reached seventy percent. In 2018, it was decided to start replacing imported products. The SSJ-New program provides for the development of a liner, in which up to 97% of foreign systems and components are replaced by domestic ones. It is planned to install the promising Russian PD-8 engine on the aircraft, the development and testing of components of which is being carried out by the United Engine Corporation.

Oxygen was cut off for the MC-21 and Sukhoi Superjet New projects. Foreign companies refused to supply components for Russian aircraft, the Ministry of Industry and Trade reported October 2020. If earlier supplies of parts for wings and engines were stopped, now supplies of electronics can also be blocked. And if the first parts could be replaced with Russian ones, then with electronics it may not work out. "Foreign partners, some publicly, someone secretly" reported that "they will not continue relations with our aircraft manufacturers", and "neither under existing contracts, nor under new contracts," - Vasily Shpak , director of the radio-electronic industry department of the Ministry of Industry and Trade, said.

Victor Gorbachev, General Director of the "Airport" Association, said “We should have been engaged in import substitution a long time ago, and not hope that someone will supply us with something. We are in the same position with the Superjet 100 practically - 80% of the components are from abroad. But for import substitution to take place, at least, it will take at least three or four years, and not so that today one financing, tomorrow another financing”.

Rostec expects that the deeply modernized short-haul Sukhoi Superjet New - an import-substituted version of the short-haul Sukhoi Superjet 100 with a domestic engine and components - will appear in 2024. The development of SSJ New will cost less than 120 billion rubles, the head of the state Corporation Sergey Chemezov told reporters 07 December 2020. The Sukhoi Superjet New (SSJ-New) aircraft will be 97 percent domestic, said Chemezov. He noted that the supply of aircraft is tied to the PD-8 engine, which will be certified by 2023. Accordingly, from 2024 it is planned to release a new version of the "Superjet". According to Chemezov, with Russian components the aircraft will become more economical and will be in demand not only in our country, but also abroad.

"SSJ new deliveries are linked to the PD-8 engine (a Russian engine that is also currently being developed). I hope it will be certified in 2023. In 2024, it is planned to produce a new version of the aircraft, "Chemezov said. He specified that the new airliner will receive mainly Russian components-the engine, avionics, aggregates - with the exception of a small number of components. "The figure of 120-130 billion [rubles for the program] is called by the media, but in reality it is less. We will be able to replace about 97% of foreign components with Russian ones," said the head of Rostec.

Initially the Sukhoi Superjet 100 was equipped with SaM146 engines. The PD-8 engine is being created in the broad cooperation of enterprises belonging to the UEC, with the participation of leading industry research institutes. In particular, the Central Institute of Aviation Motors (CIAM) issued a positive opinion on the PD-8 technical design. UEC, together with CIAM and the All-Russian Research Institute of Aviation Materials, are working on the qualification of new materials that will be used in the engine design. In cooperation with CIAM and the Central Aerohydrodynamic Institute, work will be carried out to confirm the compliance of the new engine with the promising requirements for noise and emission of harmful substances.

In his opinion, SSJ New will be in demand not only in Russia, but also abroad. "We are not only talking about import substitution - there is a task to make the aircraft as cost-effective as possible. Our components will be cheaper than imported ones, and, accordingly, the aircraft will be cheaper," Chemezov added. The best option, in his opinion, will be an airliner with a capacity of 100 passengers. "Especially for today's situation, when it is more interesting for airlines to carry fewer passengers, because there will be full occupancy on planes, than to drive a large plane half - empty," said the head of Rostec. "Today" Superjets "(SSJ 100 with a capacity of up to 103 passengers-approx.) performed very well, and Azimut received about 3% growth in passenger traffic in August," the head of Rostec said. Azimuth's SSJ 100 flight performance during the holiday season reached 8 hours a day, while Red Wings' average was 6 hours a day, Chemezov added.

In the coming years, the state Corporation plans to deliver 59 SSJ 100 aircraft to Russian airlines and expects that these aircraft will be in demand. "I believe that, on the contrary, there will be a demand for this aircraft, primarily because regional routes are actively developing now. Red Wings and Azimut are engaged in such transportation. I think Russia will work in this direction," Chemezov said. Red Wings airlines received three SSJ 100s this year, and will soon receive another one. It is also planned to deliver five aircraft to Aeroflot and two to Azimut.

In general, the type certificate is expected to be received in 2023, and the serial production of the Sukhoi Superjet NEW - in 2024.
