Perm Engine Company was founded in 1934. The Company is a serial manufacturer of aircraft engines and industrial gas turbines and it also carries out repair for aircraft engines and gas turbines. Perm Engine Company is the manufacturer of all serial aircraft engines developed by Aviadvigatel JSC, as well as the TV2-117AG engine for the Mi-8 helicopter. At the moment the basic product of the Company is the PS-90A aircraft engine and industrial gas turbines. The Company also offers a number of production services and technologies. The Company had 6200 employees as of 2003.

Perm is heavily industrialized. There are epproximately 80 plants and factories in Perm, which include those belonging to the folowing industries: aircraft, electrical,chemical, oil-processing, timber and engineering. Perm's industries produce good of a high standard such as aircaft engines, electrical appliances, super-high-voltage cables. There is a great demand for Perm telephones, bicycles, "Druzhba" (Friendship), "Ural" (the Urals) and "Taiga" motorsaws and metal thermoses both in country and abroad. The largest industrial enterprises are the joint-stock compaanies "Permskiye Motory", and " Motovilikhinskiye Zavody") (the former V. L. Lenin Engineering Works). "Motovilikhinskye Zavody" produces steel, rolled goods,complicated machines.

The history of "Perm Motors" JSC, the founder of Perm motor constructors, begins in June1,1934, when at the plant being constructed there was the first M-25 "star"-type engine tested. Four years later the Plant No 19 as it was named at that time has already become the major manufacturer of aircraft engines. During the World War II the Plant exceeded its designed capacity by 12 times and produced more than 32 (thirty two) thousand motors. Military aircrafts including famous La-5, Su-2 and Tu-2 were equipped with the produced engines.

In 50-s after transmission from piston to jet engines the Plant has consolidated its positions and become a regular partner and supplier of products for the world-famous companies of Tupalev, Ilyshin, Mikoyan, Mil, Myasishev.

Then gearbox and jet engines production for "Proton" Space Program - the most reliable rocket system in the world - has become a pride of the plant as well. In 1992 "Perm Motors" has been transformed into Joint Stock Company and within the restructure procedures of Perm engine construction complex it has turned into a Holding. "Perm Engine Company" JSC, "Proton - PM" JSC, "Aircraft gearboxes and transmissions - PM" CT JSC, "Kaskad - PM" CT JSC, "Instrumental Plant - PM" and others make up this Holding.

PERM ENGINE COMPANY was established in 1997 as a subsidiary of PERM MOTORS Company inheriting the gas turbine production facility and the rich traditions of the largest company of the West Ural. PERM ENGINE COMPANY's founders are PERM MOTORS Company - 49%, INTRROS - 26%, AVIAM HOLDING COMPANY, an American company, - 25%.

In June 2001 Mr. Reshetnikov left the post of the Aviadvigatel's General Director to focus on "Perm Engine Company" work, where he has been working as the Company's General Director since 1998. Mr. Inozemtsev has become the General Director of "Aviadvigatel". That period was marked by development of a new direction of activities, which aimed at the development of industrial gas turbines based on the aircraft engines. Four industrial gas turbines, the GTU-2.5P, GTU-4P, GTU-12P , GTU-16P for gas turbine electric power plants and gas pumping units were developed within extremely short period of time under the order of GASPROM Company. The gas turbines have proved to be highly reliable and efficient while operating. Gas turbines rated at 7, 10, 18 and 25 MW are being developed under the "Ural-Gasprom-2" Program. A family of heavy-duty industrial turbines rated at 45.250 MW is being developed for the COMMON GRIDS OF RUSSIA Company.

PERM ENGINE COMPANY is the only company in Russia producing the 4th generation PS-90A engine which successfully competes with the best engines in this class and in particular with Pratt & Whitney's PW2000 and Rolls-Royce's RB211. PERM ENGINE COMPANY also manufactures the D-30 engine (Tu-134 aircraft) , the TV2-117AG engine (MI-8 helicopters) and the D-30F6 engine (MIG-31 fighter-interceptor aircraft). Industrial gas turbines are the rapidly developing direction of the Company's activities. Perm industrial gas turbines inherited the best world-class technical and environmental characteristics, the on-condition maintenance system. They require little stuff and premises - all of these result in high operational efficiency at minimum life cycle cost.
