Vityaz DT-30 ATV

DT Vityaz (lit. Knight)are designed for use in diverse climatic conditions, on the grounds with low sup­porting power (marsh, snow, off-roads, wooded cross-country) at ambient temperatures from +40 to -50° C. DT-30PMN belongs to a principally new type of high-speed off road transporters-jointed tracked vehicles, featuring a high load and bale capacities, good trafficability and maneuverability in the most hostile road and climatic conditions. For several years, hundreds of DT-30P have been success fully used in various fields of economy all over Russia to transport, different cargoes, to carry many types of Production equipment, including cranes, tanks etc. DT-30P may be used to the greatest benefit during the search and rescue operations in the extreme conditions typical of natural disaster (calamities) and when it decomes necessary to evacuate from the disaster region of people and animals, of valuable and bulky (up to 30 tonnes by weight) loads and to deliver there the rescue parties along with there equipment doctors and food.

The development of the vehicle became necessary because the existing all-terrain vehicles only had a payload limited to a maximum of five tons. The first prototypes of the Vitjas series were developed at the Scientific Research Institute 21 (NII-21) in Bronnizy near Moscow. Vehicles that time still as DT-L and DT LP (floating version) were built at the mechanical engineering factory in Rubtsovsk in the Altai Mountains. They then went through tests in February 1971.

By the early 1980s, a large R&D cycle to create a highly unified family of two-link tracked transporters of the Vityaz family was completed. The development of this family is the result of creative cooperation under the leadership of the Main Automobile Directorate of the Moscow Region, scientific, design and production teams of 21 Scientific Research Institute of the Ministry of Defense, Scientific Research Institute of Engines, VNIITransmash, the Rubtsovsky Machine-Building Plant and the Ishimbay Transport Machine-Building Plant. The family includes:

  • two-link tracked floating transporters DT-10P, DT-20P and DT-30P with a carrying capacity of 10, 20 and 30 tons, respectively;
  • • two-link tracked non-floating transporters DT-10, DT-20 and DT-30 of similar carrying capacity.

The smaller models DT-10P, DT-20 and DT-20P entered service with the armed forces in 1980. In 1981 the tests on the model DT-30 were completed and the first model of the "Vitjas" series was produced in series. Production took place in the branch office of the Rubzowsk mechanical engineering plant in Ischimbai, Bashkir, which was built in 1977 . The DT-30 has been in series production since 1982. Serial production of two-link transporters DT-10P, DT-30P and DT-30 of this family for the period from 1982 to 1986 mastered at the Ishimbay plant of transport engineering, currently OJSC MK Vityaz.

Uralvagonzavod Corporation showed at the Russia Arms Expo (RAE) 2015 exhibition in Nizhny Tagil new equipment for equipping the Arctic troops. In particular, the DT-3PM tractor unit (weight 11 tons, carrying capacity three tons) and DT-10PM (weight 23.5 tons, carrying capacity 10 tons) in the Arctic version were shown. Both vehicles are made according to a two-link scheme and represent the actual tractor and a towed section of the cargo compartment. the machines are designed to operate in low temperatures.

A separate motorized rifle arctic brigade of the Northern Fleet (SF) received a batch of high-mobility tracked vehicles. In December of the outgoing year, the compound's fleet was replenished with three dozen new tracked all-terrain vehicles DT-10MP "Vityaz". This machine has exceptional performance characteristics for use in the Arctic. It is capable of transporting 10 tons of cargo on soils with low bearing capacity - swampy or snowy areas.

The first batch of the TOR-M2DT anti-aircraft missile system was handed over to the 726th military air defense training center in the city of Yeisk (Krasnodar Territory) in 2018. According to the state defense order, the manufacturer supplied the Russian Ministry of Defense with a division of combat vehicles. At the moment, the teaching staff of the training center has started checking the technical documentation, the full operability of the combat modules, life support systems and special equipment of the complex. After the completion of acceptance work, servicemen of the Northern Fleet will be trained at the complex. Tor-M2DT is an Arctic version of the Tor-M2 complex installed on two-link tracked transporters DT-30M. Combat vehicles of the air defense missile system have a unique cross-country ability, they can overcome ditches, swim, do not lose their performance in more than 50-degree frost.

The Arctic expedition of the Russian Ministry of Defense, conducting research and testing of new and promising weapons of military and special equipment (VVS) in the harsh conditions of the Arctic Circle, completed all the tasks in March 2018. In less than a week, the expedition is to arrive in Tiksi (Republic of Sakha (Yakutia). It has less than 600 km left to overcome, but in total, representatives of the Russian Ministry of Defense and industrial enterprises have covered a distance of about 1800 km using modern models of snow and swamp vehicles.

During the expedition, with a total length of about 2,400 km, the possibilities for the operation of AME at low temperatures (up to -60 degrees Celsius) were assessed, including ensuring the maintenance of autonomy, the necessary readiness of the sample to perform tasks, maintaining the microclimate in the inhabited compartments, the peculiarities of movement along hummocks , deep snow, with blizzards with a wind speed of more than 35 m / s and other features of the Far North.

Two-link tracked conveyors are designed to work in difficult climatic conditions of the Far North, Siberia and the Far East on soils with low bearing capacity (swamp, virgin snow, off-road, rugged woodland) at ambient temperatures from + 40 to minus 50 ° Celsius. All-terrain vehicles "Vityaz" belong to a unique type of high-speed transport vehicles - articulated tracked vehicles with high cross-country ability and maneuverability in especially difficult road and climatic conditions. The design of the all-terrain vehicles has a wide range of modifications, which makes it possible to use them as a universal chassis for the installation of technological and special equipment.

The use of snow and swamp-going vehicles "Vityaz" allows you to radically change the method of work, make it independent of climatic conditions, season, and also reduce the cost of building facilities in hard-to-reach areas. The design of the modernized transporters meets the requirements of the Ministry of Natural Resources of the Russian Federation for land vehicles in terms of the minimum impact on the soil and vegetation cover and the surrounding atmosphere, confirmed by environmental certificates, and significantly surpasses other domestic and foreign tracked vehicles in terms of environmental safety. The high properties of the caterpillar, combined with the ability to overcome water obstacles afloat and confident maneuvering in any conditions, make it possible to consider the two-link transporters of OJSC MK Vityaz as unique snow and swamp vehicles capable, without preliminary reconnaissance and engineering equipment of the route of movement, to overcome large spaces inaccessible for other land vehicles.

The combination in one vehicle of such qualities as high cross-country ability and maneuverability, travel speed and power reserve, carrying capacity and buoyancy, overcoming obstacles and water obstacles with full load, versatility and multifunctionality, suggest that two-link transporters of OJSC MK “Vityaz” do not have analogues in the world. In 1994, the Vityaz two-link tracked transporters were awarded the State Prize of the Russian Federation in the field of science and technology.

The layout of the two-link conveyors of the Vityaz family is made according to the trailed link connection scheme. All-terrain vehicles have two welded sealed hull-links. On the first link there are: a crew cabin for 4-7 people, equipped with autonomous heating and ventilation systems; engine-transmission compartment; body with awning. The second link can be made in the form of a body with an awning or a body-platform for mounting technological and other equipment. The variant design of the all-terrain vehicles provides for the installation of a cargo platform on both links instead of bodies.

All-terrain vehicles of the Vityaz family are equipped with four-stroke V-shaped multi-fuel high-speed liquid-cooled diesel engines with direct fuel injection and supercharged from a centrifugal supercharger. The engines are started by an electric starter from 24 V accumulator batteries, or by pneumatic start with compressed air from cylinders. The combined heating system, with forced thermosyphon circulation of liquid and oil, allows starting the engine at ambient temperatures down to –50 ° Celsius. In a variant version, the snow and swamp-going vehicles are equipped with Cummins turbocharged diesel engines.

The all-terrain vehicles use a hydromechanical transmission with a single-stage hydrodynamic transformer, which provides a smooth change in the transmitted torque depending on the movement resistance. A four-speed gearbox with a differential lock allows you to choose the optimal mode of movement of the conveyor in any road conditions. For efficient power transmission, each link has two planetary final drives and one bevel gearbox with a locking differential. Floating band brakes with a pneumatic drive, as well as a redundant mechanical drive for controlling the brakes of the first link, ensure reliable operation of the all-terrain vehicle's braking system. The transmission units are connected to each other by cardan shafts with intermediate bearings and toothed couplings.

Design of the rotary-clutch device allows to independently rotate the parts of the machine in horizontal, vertical and longitudinal-vertical planes. A distinctive feature of the design are the vertical and horizontal folding hydraulic cylinders located on the rotary-clutch device, controlled from the driver's seat. Horizontal folding hydrocylins work as a rotary device, providing high maneuverability of the machine. Vertical folding hydrocylins are: shock absorbers - provide high smoothness when moving; by the device of forced folding of links in a vertical plane - allow to overcome vertical walls up to 1.5 meters high. The ability to forcibly block vertical folding hydrocylinders allows the ditches to move up to 4 meters wide. By providing a reciprocal rotation of the links in the longitudinal-vertical plane, the PSU allows the transporter's caterpillars to have maximum grip with the ground.

Four wide active rubber-to-metal crawler tracks with steel cross members provide low ground pressure and high flotation. The independent high-energy torsion bar suspension of the original track rollers with spongy filler (gusmatic) creates a smooth movement of the conveyor. The use of special polyurethane coatings in the construction of driving and guide wheels, rubber elements of the undercarriage dampen jerks and shocks, ensures smooth running when the machine is moving, increasing the resource of the undercarriage and transmission as a whole. The design of the drive wheels prevents icing of the undercarriage units at low temperatures. The optimal spacing of the crossbars contributes to effective self-cleaning of the elements of the conveyor undercarriage from dirt, snow and ice.

Joint-stock company «Machine-building Company «Vityaz» is one of the most modern machine-building enterprises in Bashkortostan. Since 1982 the enterprise has being specialized in production of amphibian and nonamphibian modifications of articulated all-terrain tracked vehicles. High technology realized in this type of vehicle makes it possible to demonstrate visually a wide range of it’s capacities. Specialized machines with various technological equipment worked out recently on the base of the serial carriers are very indispensable now for oil-and-gas-industry workers, geologists and power specialists.
