Peter V. Dementyev (1907-1977)

Peter V. Dementyev (1907-1977), Soviet statesman, Minister of Aviation Industry of the USSR, Colonel General Engineer (1976), twice Hero of Socialist Labor. Since March 1946 Deputy Minister of Aviation Industry of the USSR. Since 1952 a candidate member, since 1956 a member of the Central Committee of the CPSU. In March 1953 the Ministry became the Ministry of Defense Industry and Dementyev lost his post. After the arrest of LP Beria, on 8/24/1953 he became Minister of Aviation Industry of the USSR. He led the industry until his death - nearly 34 years.

Under the leadership of Peter Vasilyevich, aviation industry after the war went on a peaceful track was mastered the production of jet aircraft and serial production of civil aircraft. P.V.Dementev was born in 1907 in a family of teachers in the village Ubei Drozhzhanovsky District of Tatarstan, in 1927 entered the Moscow Mechanical Institute. Therefore, no one has caused surprise by the fact that in early 1941, 34-year-old Dementiev was appointed First Deputy People's Commissar of Aviation Industry of the USSR. In 1942, Dementieva and aircraft manufacturers group was awarded the title Hero of Socialist Labor.

From March 1946 he was Deputy Minister of Aviation Industry of the USSR. In March 1953 the Ministry became the Ministry of Defense Industry and Dementyev has lost his post. After the arrest of Beria 08.24.1953 became Minister of Aviation Industry of the USSR. He led the industry until his death - almost 34 years. 12.14.1957 on the basis of the Ministry established the Council of Ministers of the USSR State Committee for Aviation Technology, which 03.14.1963 renamed the State Committee on Aviation Technology of the USSR, and 02/03/1965 - again in the ministry. With a name associated Dementieva many achievements of our aircraft, in particular the implementation of the transition to the jet and supersonic aircraft, creating a first-class civil aviation.

He knew how to be tough and kind, and unyielding, and vseponimayuschim he could when necessary - to flatter when necessary - cut could bring the man, and he could clearly state in the distance - it was many-sided, and it is this, according to those who worked alongside the minister, it was interesting and roads. I had worked for many years under the direction of Peter Vasilievich Dementieva. I think those years very fruitful in my life, in the life of EDB im.S.V.Ilyushina , and the entire industry. On the initiative and with the direct personal involvement of Peter Vasilyevich first jet military transport aircraft have been established IL-76 and 350-seat wide-body passenger aircraft IL-86 , work began on the long-haul, with its supply of IL-96 . In my life, for that matter, and the fate of many of my colleagues, P.V.Dementev played a huge role. It was a sensitive leader, an outstanding statesman, and at the same time charming and witty man."

P.V.Dementev died May 14, 1977 in Moscow, and was buried in the Novodevichy Cemetery in Moscow.

P.V.Dementev - laureate of USSR State Prize (1953). At the 19th Congress was elected a candidate member of the CPSU Central Committee, 20-25 th Congress - a member of the Central Committee of the CPSU. Deputy of the Supreme Soviet of the USSR 49th convocation. Awarded the Order of Leninb 9 times, the Red Banner, Kutuzov 1st degree, Suvorova 2nd degree, 2 orders of the Red Banner of Labor, the Order of the Red Star and medals.

A street in Kazan is in the name of P.V.Dementeva.
