BTR-82AT 8x8 wheeled infantry fighting vehicle
The modernization of the armored vehicle BTR-82A led to the creation of a new modification - BTR-82AT. To solve combat tasks against highly armored targets such as a tank or heavy BMP, the armored vehicle BTR-82AT provides for the deployment of portable PTRK "Kornet-E". In terms of the composition of the weapons complex, security and the ability to solve tactical and fire missions, it, in fact, turned into a wheeled infantry fighting vehicle. The new remotely controlled weapon station was an initiative development. This DBM can be installed on almost any armored personnel carrier, wheeled or tracked, thereby turning it into an infantry fighting vehicle.
The newest version of the famous Russian armored personnel carrier BTR-82 - the BTR-82AT armored personnel carrier - was being demonstrated for the first time at the Army-2019 International Military-Technical Forum in Kubinka, June 2019. Wheeled armored personnel carrier BTR-82AT is manufactured by Military Industrial Company LLC (MIC). Combat crew of 9-10 people. Diesel engine power - 300 HP The maximum speed on the highway is 80 km / h. The weight of the updated vehicle is now 17250 kg.
Representatives of the MTO bodies in 2020 took an active part in the International Military-Technical Forum "Army-2020" in January 2021. Among the novelties of Russian production, several exhibits attracted the greatest attention. Of note was the BTR-82AT armored personnel carrier with the remotely controlled BTR-BM module. BTR-82AT is a wheeled armored amphibious combat vehicle intended to transport units of the rifle-motorcyclists, the navy troop and special forces, their fire support on the battlefield, conduct combat from of a vehicle. BTR-82AT is a deep modernization of the BTR-80A armored vehicle, designed to improve the basic combat and operational properties of an armored vehicle. The increase in firepower is achieved through the installation of the unified combat module with the electric controls and the digital two-plane stabilizer of the weapon - a 30 mm 2?72 automatic cannon with a 7.62 mm PKTM double machine gun. The construction of the unified module allows it to be equipped with various types of machine guns and artillery weapons, including foreign-made ones.
Outwardly, the AT modification differs from earlier vehicles in the presence of a set of additional reflective screens made of armor steel and special grilles. The former significantly increase resistance to bullets from such large-caliber machine guns as M2, DShK and Utes, the latter neutralize the effect of rocket-propelled grenades from RPG-7, SPG-9 anti-tank grenade launchers, as well as foreign analogs. The installed set of shields and grills significantly increase anti-bullet and anti-cumulative resistance when large caliber machine gun ammunition (including side and rear projections) and anti-tank propelled grenades strike them. There is also a system for the delivery of aerosol curtains.
The main difference from earlier versions is the presence of a new uninhabited combat module BTR-BM. 9K111-1M Konkurs-M guided missile armament complex with two 9M113M ATGM launchers was installed on the DBM, the protected launchers of which are mounted on both sides of the module. The Kornet portable anti-tank missile system significantly increased their capabilities to combat enemy engineering structures and heavy highly protected armored vehicles. It used a 30-mm automatic stabilized in two planes 2A42 cannon and a coaxial 7.62-mm PKTM machine gun. Ammunition for an automatic cannon (300 rounds in two belts) and a coaxial machine gun (2,000 rounds in one belt) are located directly in the DBM outside the crew compartment of the combat vehicle, which significantly increases the safety of the crew and the survivability of the vehicle.
At the disposal of the gunner-operator is a perfected fire control system, with a multi-channel sight, allowing to detect the enemy at night at a distance of up to three kilometers. This vehicle is distinguished by the presence in its weapon complex of a sight combined with optical and thermal imaging channels, a laser rangefinder and independent stabilization of the line of sight in the vertical plane. The combat vehicle received a new combined two-channel sight with vertical stabilization and a laser rangefinder. With its help, the gunner can effectively fire from the 30-mm 2A72 automatic cannon and the 7.62-mm PKTM machine gun day and night. Now, in the dark, operators can use a thermal imager, it is not afraid of external interference and helps to see even camouflaged targets. Also, this device allows detecting the enemy in rain, fog and behind clouds of dust.
Today, the BTR-82A armored personnel carriers, developed and manufactured by VPK LLC, form the basis of the modern fleet of wheeled armored vehicles of the Ground Forces and the Marine Corps of the Russian Federation Armed Forces. The modernization of the armored vehicle BTR-82A up to the level of BTR-82AT can be carried out using the repair base directly at the Customer's site. In addition to Russia, the BTR-82A wheeled armored personnel carriers serve in units of the armed forces of several countries.
According to the reviews of the military personnel of the armies of these countries, the new model of the armored vehicle has high tactical, technical and operational characteristics, as well as high reliability and ease of operation, traditional for domestic armored personnel carriers, including in conditions of both low and high temperatures, as well as in mountainous conditions.
Thanks to the implemented measures, the combat effectiveness coefficient of the BTR-82A has doubled compared to the BTR-80A. The improvement of the combat vehicle is carried out constantly. Since the start of mass production of armored personnel carriers of the BTR-82A type, more than 1000 modifications and improvements have been introduced on the combat vehicle, which have increased both the combat effectiveness of the vehicle and its consumer properties. All the modifications were the result of the joint work of specialists from the Military Industrial Company and the military - those who operate these machines and use them directly in battle. For this purpose, the specialists of "VPK" LLC constantly make trips to military units equipped with machines manufactured by the company, including those located far beyond the borders of Russia.
The stock of modernization of armored personnel carriers BTR-80 / 82A is still far from exhausted. This is a distinctive feature of the Russian design school - to create samples of weapons and military equipment that have enormous potential in terms of modernization. In the future, the vehicle will have greater firepower, better security and better command control, while the vehicle's mobility and reliability will remain at the same high level. The optimal balance of the combat properties of the armored personnel carrier, high operational reliability and ensure the high combat effectiveness of a combat vehicle on the battlefield.
