BT-6 Light tank

The next stage in the development of high-speed tanks was the option BT-6. It was designed in mid-1932 by the design bureau under the direction of AO Firsov, who worked in Kharkov. The basis for the new modification was an experienced BT-4 tank, which was distinguished, for the most part, by a riveted-welded hull structure and some “cosmetic” modifications. In the case of the BT-6, the hull structure was left unchanged, returning the tow hooks to the tank, welding them to the brackets of the stiffening wings. To better protect the driver from being hit by bullets, small fragments and lead splashes, a new shield with a lock was designed. Instead of welding when fastening small parts, the use of rivets was again made as cheaper in production. Aft armor plates and guitar bookings also underwent changes. Armament and turret completely borrowed from the BT-5. The assembly of the prototype BT-6 began in the autumn of 1932, but they did not have time to complete the construction of the prototype tank. A few weeks later, it was ordered to stop all work on the BT-6 and concentrate on improving the serial BT-5.
