Squadron 515
The primary role of 515 Squadron is to protect material information and personnel of AFB Louis Trichardt against any internal or external threat or loss.
During the Air Force Staff Council meeting held on 15 September 1981 at Air Force Base Headquarters, it was decided to establish security squadrons at certain units. The Department of Organisational studies, together with the decision of the Air Force Staff Council, authorised the investigation by giving a principal approval, letter HS OPS/502/6/2 dated 12 December 1981.
The purpose of the investigation was to crate a basic structure of a security squadron that can be implemented with certain post tables as applicable.
A survey made by DIR SEC Sir Force Base Headquarters helped to determine what the new found Security Squadrons had to supply. The proposed organisation and posts was planned for the next two years.
