IJN Akitsushima Flying-boat Tender
Ordered in the 1939 Programme, the Akitsushima was laid down in 1940 and completed two years later for the specific purpose of operating one large flying boat. She survived through the war up until 24 September 1944, when planes from an American aircraft carrier sunk her. Three sister ships, a larger version, and six smaller versions of the Akitsushima were planned but never laid down.
