2nd Brigade, Iraqi Army
2nd Brigade, 1st Division, Iraqi Army
On 1 September 2004, the 2nd Brigade of the Iraqi Intervention Force (later redesignated as the 1st Division, Iraqi Army) was established with headquarters at An Numaniyah. It is composed of 3 maneuver battalions and a Headquarters and Service Company.
A major reorganization of the Iraqi Army occured during 2006, following the rapid force generation of new Iraqi Army brigades and the creation of the first additional divisions. Prior to this, the 3rd, 8th, and another Battalion, Iraqi Army had been assigned to the Brigade. During the reorganization, the 2nd Brigade kept its original designation. In 2008, another major change was made, with the redesignation of all the brigades in the Iraqi Army. The 2nd Brigade retained its designation during this reorganization as well.
