Umidiyeh Air Base, 5th Tactical Air Base

The 5th Tactical Air Base (N3050'06.60" E4932'05.70") is located outside of the city of Umidiyeh (Omidiyeh) in Southwestern Iran. This base is part of the Western Area Command of the Iranian Air Force. The base is operated by the Iranian Air Force. There is two asphalt runways at the base (3505m x 45m and 4115m x 45m). As of 2008 there were three tactical fighter squadrons (51st, 52nd, and 53rd) located at Umidiyeh which fly F-7Ms and FT-7s, along with assorted light aircraft.

In a declassified report from 1991, the USS Midway reported that there were indications that the Iranian Air Force had based recently aquired F-7 aircrafts at Omidiyeh and could operate in SW Iran in the near future. The F-7 is the Chinese version of the Mig-21 and there was speculation these aircraft could have been mistaken for captured Iraqi Mig-21s. It was later confirmed that the Chinese had indeed sold F-7M "Airguard" fighters and FT-7 trainers to the Iranians.
