Tabriz - 2nd Tactical Air Base (TAB-2)

The 2nd Tactical Airbase at Tabriz is located at N 387'55" E 4614'25" (38.13194, 46.24028), roughly 10 miles northwest of the city of Tabriz, which is the capital of East Azerbaijan Province. The base is less than 100 miles from the Azerbaijan and Armenia border and less than 200 miles from the Turkey and Iraq border. The airbase serves both civilian and military purposes. It is part of the Western Area Command of the Iranian Air Force.

According to a 3 August 2001, Zerkalo news artilce, two air squadrons are based at Tabriz which consist of 17 F-5 aeroplanes and four US-made military helicopters. TAB-2 is the headquarters of the Northen Helicopter Command and Unammed Aerial Vehicle (UAV) Logistics Support Command.

In 2003, the Iranian Air force manufactured a chamber for testing engines of MiG-29 aircraft. This chamber was successfully tested at the Tabriz base.

As of 2008 the base was home to three tactical fighter squadrons (21st, 22nd, and 23rd), which consist of F-5E/Fs and MiG-29s. There are also supporting helicopters and light aircraft for local SAR and base hack duties.
