Cassard
French Cassard Class destroyer of 4668 tons displacement, launched in 1985. She is powered by four SEMT-Pielstick 18PA6 V280 BTC diesels providing a top speed of 29.5 knots and a range of 13120 km at 17 knots and 7680 km at 24 knots. She carries a crew of 236, including 19 officers and has accommodation for 251.
Cassard Class destroyers are tasked with taking part in air defense during operations aimed at achieving control of naval-airspace and force projection during the management of crises.
Armaments consist of eight Aerospatiale MM 40 Exocet anti-ship missiles; 40 GDC Pomona Standard SM-1MR surface to air missiles launched from a Mk 13 Mod 5 launcher; Two Matra Sadral PDMS sextuple launchers firing the Mistral sea-skimming surface-to-air missile; one DCN 100 mm/55 Mod 68 CADAM automatic gun; two Oerlikon 20 mm guns; two fixed torpedo launchers model KD 59E taking the ECAN L5 Mod 4 anti-submarine torpedo. One Lynx Mk 2/ 4 helicopter and Honeywell MK46 torpedoes are also carried for anti-submarine warfare.
