Army Aviation Brigade No. 25 Aviation Missions, designs strategies oriented to the Instruction and Training programs of the Army Aviation crews, with the organic units of the Air Assault Aviation Division, also fulfills operational missions (Missions Aviation Tactics and Generals), with the purpose of providing support and compliance with them.

32nd Aviation Brigade

The Brigada de Aviación No 32 de Apoyo y Sostenimiento, headquartered at Tolemaida, is in charge of maintenance. It comprises the Batallón de Especialistas de Mantenimiento de Aviación (BAEMA), the Batallón de Mantenimiento de Aviación No 1 (BAMAV 1) – the only unit located at El Dorado, in charge of fixedwing aircraft maintenance, BAMAV 2 for Black Hawk maintenance, BAMAV 3 for the Mi-17, BAMAV 4 for the CUH-1N and Huey II and the Batallón de Apoyo, Abastecimientos y Servicios para la Aviación (BAAAS), in charge of logistics, including supplying spares to all the maintenance units.

33rd Aviation Brigade

The Brigada de Aviación No 33 de Movilidad y Maniobra is an operational ‘mobility and manoeuvre’ unit. Aviation Brigade No. 33 is in charge of directing operations of all kinds such as air assaults, troop supply, humanitarian support missions, among other. This elite Unit of the National Army is in charge of of the mobility and maneuvering of land units throughout the Nation. Comprising eight battalions, it doesn’t have organic own aircraft. Instead, the brigade borrows assets from BAAV 2 to 5. It makes use of bases at Bucaramanga, Buenavista, Popayán, Tumaco, San José del Guaviare, Neiva, Larandia, Caucasia and Saravena.

Bases

The aircraft, personnel and specialties are distributed in five important bases, with detachments to other smaller military units in other parts of the country and which are located there depending on the needs of the mission. In 1997, the main Army Aviation base was created at Tolemaida, a large Ejército Nacional facility at Melgar, around 62 miles (100km) southwest of Bogotá. The air component was provided with a small runway used for paratrooper training. Since then, the facilities have been enlarged, adding a longer runway and more hangars.

    Tolemeida is the headquarters for the Colombian Army's rotary wing aviation brigade. Developing the Colombian military's air mobility capabilities constitutes the single most important contribution of U.S. Southern Command under Plan Colombia -- as air mobility has been the key enabler for the Colombian military's significant gains over insurgent groups in conflict areas. Colombian Special Forces units under the Joint Command for Special Operations (CCOES) are trained at Tolemeida.
