Xiangyanghong 09 Type 645 Marine Comprehensive Survey Ship

The Jiaolong is a manned deep-ocean submersible made in China. Like many other submersibles, the Jiaolong operates with a mother ship. For its sea trials, the Jiaolong operated with the Xiangyanghong 09, an oceanographic research ship subordinate to the North Sea Branch of State Oceanic Administration [SOA]. Built in Shanghai’s Hudong shipyard in 1978, the Xiangyanghong 09 was recently modified to serve as the mother ship for the submersible’s sea tests. Xiangyanghong No. 09 changed to 350. It was changed to China Haijian 28 and is now changed back to Xiangyanghong No. 09.

“Xiangyanghong 09 Ship” is the first 4,500-ton ocean-going scientific research vessel designed and built by China. In 1971, China resumed its legal seat in the United Nations. While enjoying the rights conferred by the United Nations, it also meant to assume corresponding international obligations. For the implementation of the United Nations WMO Global Atmosphere Experiment and other international and domestic offshore survey tasks, China proposed design and construction of the fourth Five-Year Plan 4000-ton comprehensive marine research vessel, namely 645-type comprehensive marine survey ship, commissioned by the State Oceanic Administration 708 Suo Design, built by Hudong Shipyard. Xiangyanghong 09 is a marine comprehensive survey vessel. It is a small batch trial project of the fourth national five-year plan . It was commissioned by the State Oceanic Administration and designed by 708, and the first product built by Hudong Shipyard . The ship is equipped with the first domestic 10,000-meter depth sounder and the most advanced and complete meteorological equipment, communication equipment, navigation equipment and marine scientific investigation equipment in the country. It can engage in marine hydrology, physics, marine meteorology and marine chemistry in various sea areas. Scientific research on marine geology, geomorphology, biology, etc., providing marine scientific information for the construction of national defense construction economy. Later, two identical ships were built for the State Oceanic Administration: Xiangyanghong 14 and Xiangyanghong16; and the Type 813 electronic technology reconnaissance ship (Xiangyanghong No. 21) was built as the mother model.

The development and sea trial of the "Dragon" manned submersible is a major project of the national high-tech research and development plan . The "Xiangyanghong 09" ship plan anchored to the Mariana Trench Test Sea Area at 6 am on June 6 and arrived in the scheduled sea area on the morning of June 11. On the occasion of the official launch of China's manned deep-dive 7000-meter sea trial on June 3, 2012, China Post Group announced the establishment of the “Dragon” Deep Sea Post Office at the launching ceremony. The post office is located in the manned deep submersible space of the "Zhenlong" located 7000 meters below the seabed. According to the relevant person in charge of China Post Group, China Post specially hired one of the designers of the “Dragon” manned submersible, and the “Zhulong” submarine, Ye Cong, served as the first honorary director of the “Dragon” Deep Sea Post Office. Compared with the foreign manned deep-dive mother ship, the "Xiangyanghong" that was completed in 1978 and has been in service for a long time can provide relatively poor sea conditions. Even after the transformation into the "Zhenlong" sea test mother ship in 2008, there are only two laboratories, one dry and one wet, and many instruments and equipment need researchers to bring their own. On December 18, 2014, the "Xiangyanghong 09" mother ship carrying the "Jilong" manned submersible drove off the port of Mauritius, Port Louis, and went to the Southwestern Indian Ocean polymetallic sulphide mining area to carry out scientific research operations. The "Xiangyanghong 09" ship sailed from Qingdao's home port on November 20, 2014, and went to Jiangyin City, Jiangsu Province to carry the "Jilong" and went to the Southwest Indian Ocean to carry out the experimental application voyage of the "Zhenlong" manned submersible from 2014 to 2015 (China) Ocean 35 voyage) Second and third voyage missions.
