Poly Technologies Type 07P infantry fighting vehicle

The Type 07P is a Chinese infantry fighting vehicle manufactured by Poly Technologies. The Type 07 has a crew of three and capacity to carry 7 to 10 troops. Occupants enter and leave the vehicle through the rear ramp or roof hatches. There are some firing ports provided for the troops. Engine compartment is located in the middle of the hull, behind the driving compartment. Vehicle is fitted with a central tire inflation system for improved cross-country mobility. It is speculated that vehicle utilizes design elements and technologies protecting occupants from landmines and IEDs. Vehicle is also likely to have NBC protection and automatic fire suppression systems.

It is commonly known as the Type 07P, however its actual designation might be different. Development commenced in the 1990s. It was influenced by Western and Russian armored personnel carriers. Its first pictures appeared in around 2006. It seems that this armored personnel carrier was aimed to meet a Chinese army requirement. Eventually the PLA selected another 8x8 APC design, which entered service as the ZBL-08. Instead the Type 07P was offered for export customers.

The Chinese company Poly Technologies is promoting to the foreign market a new export version of the Type 07P armored personnel carrier with an 8x8 wheel arrangement. The new variant, designated Type 07PA, is armed with a 120mm cannon instead of the 30mm cannon on the Type 07P armored personnel carrier. The turret with a 120-mm gun is identical to the turret of the PLL-05 self-propelled artillery and mortar system by Norinco (China North Industries Corporation), which is in service with the PLA.

Twenty Type 07P, including one command and one recovery vehicle, have been delivered to Cameroon. In service with Cameroon Armed Forces Armoured Reconnaissance Battalion (Bataillon Blind de Reconnaissance), they have seen combat during Boko Haram insurgency. One of them destroyed a Boko Haram Saurer 4K 4FA. According to Janes Defence Weekly, Cameroon is the first known user of the Type 07P infantry fighting vehicle (IFV). This 88 IFV from Poly Technologies is armed with a 30 mm cannon and a coaxial 7.62 mm machinegun. It can carry seven troops in addition to the three crew. Both the regular and command variants of the Type 07P were on display at the countrys 42nd National Day parade on 20 May 2014. According to the Cameroon Tribune, the Armys Armoured Reconnaissance Brigade (BBR) has two platoons of Type 07P vehicles and three platoons of tank destroyers in service.

The Type 07PA is in service with Tanzania, with twelve delivered in 2014. According to IHS Janes Defence Weekly, the new equipment, which was quietly acquired from China over the past few years, was unveiled at the 50th Tanzanian independence anniversary celebrations which were held at the Uhuru Stadium in Dar es Salaam on 25 April 2014. Tanzania is believed to be the first operator of the Type 07PA 120 mm mortar, which can be used as a mortar or howitzer to deliver direct or indirect fire. It uses rifled rounds and has a maximum fire range of 9.5 km. The system, which is operated by a crew of four which includes the commander, driver, gunner and loader, carries 30 rounds of ammunition.

The YLGA01 riot control vehicle made by Polytech is a Civilian Variant of the Type 07P APC. It has four wheels on each side and includes some nice features on the inside that will make long missions more comfortable, the vehicle has air conditioning and a water cooler. It looks like that water cooler may have hot water too making it perfect for cooking up noodles. The vehicle is aimed at police use and has carpeting inside and the seats even appear to be comfortable. If the people are supposed to stay inside for long periods it seems they would need a place to sleep and a bathroom. Maybe they are supposed to use bottles for bathrooms.
