Type 053K Jiangdong-class Frigate - Service
After the 053K type 531 Yingtan ship entered the Navy, it participated in many cruises, exercises and readiness actions. Especially in the famous "3.14" naval battle, the 531 ship made an important contribution to the victory of the naval battle.
Due to the particularity of the 053K ship, after the 531 ship was delivered to the Navy, in addition to daily combat patrols, it was mainly engaged in a large number of sea trial missions. Since the mid-1980s, in order to carry out missions in the South China Sea, the ship also installed longitudinal and horizontal replenishment devices to follow the formation voyage and replace the original mainframe with two certified new 18E390VA diesel engines.
In addition, the ship also participated in the 1988 "3·14" Nansha naval battle with the 502 ship and the 556 ship. On March 14, 1988, when the Jiangdong-class frigate 531 "Yingtan" escorted the Chinese marine scientific research ship to the Nansha Red Gua Reef in China, it was provoked by the Vietnamese Navy, and the first shot was from the Vietnamese forces. The power, firing rate and precision of the main gun had an unparalleled advantage in facing the Vietnam warship. Under the support of the friendly ship, Yingtan was able to sink a ship in only 48 minutes, damaging four enemy ships, killing more than 60 people and capturing more than 40 people (one of the lieutenant colonel). During the battle, the Chinese navy’s officers and men participated in the battle and were brave and tenacious, and they always controlled the initiative of the battlefield.
After the end of the battle, in order to prevent cross-country retaliation, the naval formation specially ordered 531 ships to prepare for air defense, but the Vietnamese side had lost the desire to continue fighting, making the 531 ship's air defense missiles lose their chance of only one actual combat. However, the victory of the naval battle made the 531 ship a meritorious ship. After retiring, it entered the Qingdao Naval Museum together with the 502 ship.
No. 532 frigate (no official name), the second 053K (Jiangdong-class) air defense missile frigate, built for the new shipyard, started in October 1971, completed the first phase of the project in July 1977. Later due to unsupported ship-borne weapons - the anti-aircraft missiles failed to pass the tests - some of the ship-borne equipment could not work normally. The hull and pipelines were seriously corroded. In June 1986, it was sadly retired in advance. The ship was not officially named, and later the media called the "Middle East" ship, which appeared to be transliterated by foreign media. The 532 ship belonged to the sixth detachment of the East China Sea Fleet frigate. The ship cannot be used for combat. From 1977 to 1980, the 532 ship carried out the most tasks of protection of fisheries, escort, sea rescue and wind and wave tests.
The 532 unit participated in the main tasks:
- Escort: It once participated with the Navy J302 rescue salvage ship. The "Super Hornet" helicopter took off and landed on the ship. Due to the high mast, several times it received the helicopter command.
- Protecting fish: protecting fishermen's offshore operations at Zhoushan Fishing Ground
- Exercise: Participate in the "Donghai No. 2" exercise as a command ship; Participate in the detachment main gun and sub-cannon sea shooting training and the submarine 72 brigade formations for rocket deep-bomb shooting training; Cooperate with submarines for submarine training, and speedboats for sea torpedo attack drills.
- Patrol: Perform maritime patrol missions for major festivals such as May Day, National Day, and Spring Festival.
- Pick-up and drop-off tasks: It performed a shuttle to the Shanghai People’s Consolation Mission to the Zhouwei Fortress for condolence performance missions, nursery rhymes, Tong Xiangying, Zhu Fengbo, Mao Huifang, "Mo Feixian" and the original "Jiangshuiying" and "Sea" Hong Kong", Bai Mao female drama group, etc., the famous national actors are transported by 532 ships to the various units of Zhoushan
After Du Yide served as the political commissar of the navy, he took the 532 ship to inspect the troops belonging to the East China Sea Fleet. The East China Sea is the main typhoon-prone area in China. There are many typhoons in the year, 532 ship conducted rescue at sea many times.
The 532 ship carried out the rescue mission in the summer of 1978. It encountered the biggest storm in the history of the navy. The hull swayed more than 45 degrees to the left and right. It exceeded the design requirements and was severely deformed. When it returned to Shanghai for overhaul, it was also due to heavy fog and Tianjin Dayangan’s “Daxinganling” cargo ships collided and suffered heavy losses. Later, it was stranded by the wrong dock. After a year of overhaul, they returned to the Navy. After the equipment was not functional, the hull was severely deformed and rusted. It is said that the ship was sunk as a target and plunged out of the naval sequence.
