PLA 53rd Army
The 53rd Army of the Chinese People's Liberation Army was adapted from the Kuomintang security forces during the Changsha Uprising.
In early August 1949, Cheng Qian, director of the Kuomintang Communist Party and the chairman of the Hunan Provincial Government, Cheng Qian, and Chen Mingren, deputy commander of the Central China Military and Military Administration and commander of the 1st Corps, led the rebellion in Jiyang County, Hunan Province to the 1st Corps of the Chinese Kuomintang People's Liberation Army. The 63rd Division of the Kuomintang Army, the Xiangdong Column and the Changsha Suijing Public Security Brigade and other departments were reorganized into the 2nd Army, and the Hunan Provincial Security Division 1, 2nd, and 3rd Divisions were reorganized into the 3rd Army. In November, the 1st Corps of the Chinese Kuomintang People's Liberation Army was ordered to formally reorganize into the 21st Corps of the People's Liberation Army, mainly the 3rd Corps, and merge the 2nd and 3rd Corps into the 53rd Corps under the jurisdiction of the 21st Corps. Peng Jieru served as military commander, Wang Zhenqian served as political commissar, Wang Zhenxiang served as deputy military commander, Yang Wenmo served as chief of staff, and Zhang Taisheng served as director of the political department.
Under the jurisdiction of the 217th Division, Jiang Heying was the division head, Duan Lianghui was the political commissar; the 218th division, He Yuankai was the division chief, and Xiao Deming was the division political committee; the 219th division was Zhou Dugong, division division, and Wang Hen was the political division committee. After the formation of the 53rd Army, the 21st Corps of the Fourth Field Army was formed. Reorganized in October 1950, the 218th Division was revoked.
In September 1951, the 53rd Army Headquarters was revoked, and the 217th and 219th Divisions under its jurisdiction were changed to the 21st Corps.
