PLA 35th Army

The 35th Army of the Chinese People's Liberation Army was composed of the Luzhongnan Column and the 96th Army of the Kuomintang Army reorganized by the uprising in the Jinan Campaign.

In July 1948, the East China Military Region formed the basic regiments of the Luzhongnan Military Region to form the East China Field Army Luzhongnan Column. Fu Qiutao, commander and political commissar of the Luzhongnan Military Region, served as both the column commander and political commissar and was under the command of the Shandong Corps. In September, the main force of the Luzhongnan Column participated in the Jinan campaign, and 4 regiments joined the Siege West Group to collaborate with the comrades to conquer the commercial port. Four regiments joined the aid group, and aided between Guanqiao and Tengxian, ensuring the victory of the Jinan campaign. In October, the troops affiliated with the Luzhongnan column were reorganized, with Qian Jun as commander and Zhang Xiong as political commissar.

The troops were reorganized into the 46th and 47th divisions, with a total of 14,000 in 6 regiments. It belonged to the East China Field Army Shandong Corps. In the Huaihai Campaign, the Luzhongnan column first wiped out more than 3,000 soldiers of the Shandong Security Brigade in the suburbs; then, in the southeast of Xuzhou and the south of Xuzhou, they joined forces with the comrades to block the Xuzhou Kuomintang Army from assisting the Huang Baitao Corps in the east, the Huang Wei Corps in the south, and the Du Weiming Group in pursuit Combat, annihilated more than 20,000 Kuomintang troops.

On October 29, Wu Huawen, the Kuomintang army who rebelled during the Jinan campaign, was reorganized into the 35th Army of the People's Liberation Army. Wu Huawen served as the military commander.

In February 1949, according to the order of the Central Military Commission of the Communist Party of China regarding the unification of the whole army and the designation of the troops, the Lu Zhongnan column and the 35th Army were integrated into the 35th Army of the Chinese People's Liberation Army and belonged to the 7th Corps of the Third Field Army. Wu Huawen served as military commander, He Kexi served as political commissar, Yang Youbo and Hu Darong served as deputy military commanders, Zhang Xiong as deputy political commissar, and Kong Fanbin as director of the political department. Under the jurisdiction of the 103rd Division, Yu Huaian was the division head, Peng Shengbiao was the political committee; the 104th Division, Fang Ming was the division chief, and Yan Zheng was the political committee; the 105th Division, He Zhibin was division, and Song Xianzhang was the political committee.

There were more than 22,000 people in the army. In April, the 35th Army was transferred to the command of the 8th Corps, participated in the battle of crossing the river, captured Pukou and Puzhen, and crossed the river to liberate Nanjing on the 23rd. In August, it went south to the bandits in Jinhua, Zhejiang. In September, the 103rd, 104th, and 105th Divisions also served Quzhou, Shaoxing Military Division, and Hangzhou Security District. In January 1950, the 35th Army was revoked, and the army and military artillery regiments were transferred to the East China Navy. The three divisions under its jurisdiction were transferred to the Zhejiang Military Region.
