PLA 33rd Army

The 33rd Army of the Chinese People's Liberation Army was composed of the Bohai Column of the East China Field Army and the 59th Army of the Kuomintang Army who revolted in the Huaihai Campaign.

In September, it participated in the Battle of Jinan and collaborated with his comrades to attack Jinan City from the east. After the end of the battle, it served as the guard task of Jinan Chengbei. In the winter of the same year, it participated in the Huaihai Battle, occupied Xuzhou in the second phase of the battle and served as a security mission. Then it went south with a division to participate in the rescue, to ensure that the comrades siege the Huang Wei Corps, and then participated in the siege of Du Yuming Group.

In February 1949, in accordance with the order of the Central Military Commission, the Bohai Column and the 59th Army of the Kuomintang Army during the uprising in the Huaihai Campaign became the 33rd Army of the Chinese People's Liberation Army, and belonged to the 9th Corps of the Third Field Army. Zhang Kexia served as the military commander, Han Nianlong served as the political commissar, Zhang Zhenqiu and Meng Shaolian served as deputy military commanders, and Ouyang Ping served as the director of the political department. The 7th Division was renamed the 97th Division, and Yang Gansan served as the division chief. The 11th Division was renamed the 98th Division, Cui Zhenlun served as the division chief, and Zeng Xuqing served as the political commissar. The 59th Army Headquarters of the Kuomintang Uprising was reorganized into the 99th Division, Fu Jize was the division commander, and Qin Hualong was the political commissar. In July, the 100th Division of the 34th Army was returned to the 33rd Army. In November 1950, the 33rd Army was ordered to be reorganized into the East China Public Security Force and Songhu Police Command. The 97th, 98th, 99th, and 100th Divisions were successively reorganized into the 14th, 15th, 16th, and 17th Divisions of the Public Security Bureau, and the army’s designation was simultaneously revoked.
