Amphibious and Naval Transport Command [Comando Anfibio y de Transportes Navales] is composed of the "Sergeant Aldea" strategic projection vessel and "Chacabuco" and "Rancagua" barges with base in the port of Valparaiso.These units allow the rapid deployment of marine infantry forces, means of amphibious transport, land transport vehicles and Expeditionary military forces that the relevant command want to land. In this way, this operational force units contribute to the effective development of amphibious operations, anywhere in the national territory. They are also the main link in support of island communities and others, whose connection with the rest of the country largely depends on the maritime communication routes.
The Naval Transport Command was created 26 February 1976. Later became the Amphibious and Naval Transport Command. The Units that compose it allow the rapid deployment of the Marine Infantry Force, land transport vehicles, amphibious assault boats and expeditionary Military Forces that it is desired to project in a territory, contributing to the effective development of amphibious operations in the place where required.
USA Exercise Bold Alligator, carried out since 2011, is a multinational amphibious exercise that is hosted by the United States and aims to improve the amphibious naval core, with Expeditionary Strike Group 2 (ESG-2) and Second Marine Expeditionary Brigade (2nd MEB). On the other hand, a second objective aims to strengthen interoperability among the countries that make up NATO, as well as with the nations that are part of the “Partnership of America”, among which Chile appears.
