YR - Repair Barge

GENERAL DESCRIPTION

The YR-24 Class is a non self-propelled repair barge designed to provide shop services plus living accommodations in support of small boats and craft repair. The barge is self sustaining with its own generators, distilling plant, air compressor and boiler and with living accommodations (berths, mess galley, WR & WC) for a total crew of 48 personnel (47 enlisted, 1 CPO).

Shops are located on the main deck and consist of carpenter shop, blacksmith shop, electrical shop, storage battery shop, machine shop, pipe & coppersmith & sheet metal shop, boat engine shop and welding shop.

The upper deck contains the living quarters. Connections are available to bring in shore electricity, water and steam where such utilities are available.

Shop area is served by a hand operated 6000 pound trolley and motorized hoist. An "A" frame 6000 pound capacity, installed on the main deck overhanging the stern, and is used to transfer small boat engines and other weights from alongside the barge onto the trolley and hoist system for further transfer into the shops. Barge is capable of furnishing steam and electricity to alongside boats and craft.
