YFNB - Steel Covered Lighter
YFNB is a 260 foot by 48 foot, non-self-propelled, large, steel, covered lighter. The YFNBs were built in the mid-forties, and their purpose was to house a sub crew, as well as provide shops for maintenance of the submarine. The YFNBs are capable of housing a total of 420 men of which 196 man the barge shops. The craft also contains classrooms for training.
The YFNBs are dependent on electricity and heat from an outside source. They do, however, have two diesel driven fire pumps, AC&R equipment, and fresh water. A 5.5 ton crane sits on the superstructure deck and its 58-ft boom allows for the handling of material from either side of the barge.
