CV 2 LEXINGTON 1/8/1921 10/3/1925 12/14/1927 Struck by several bombs and torpedoes at Coral Sea 8 May 1942. Damage initially controlled. Fumes from ruptured fuel lines exploded several hours later; fire rapidly became uncontrollable. Ship was abandoned and sunk by US torpedoes.
