AS-13 Griffin
Two merchants, the SS Mormacpenn and SS Mormacyork were built by Sun Shipbuilding & Drydock Co, Chester PA, and delivered to the Moore-McCormick Steamship Company in 1940. The US Navy acquired them as part of their pre-war expansion late in 1940 and converted them to submarine tenders at Brooklyn NY. Both were assigned to reserves after World War II; Griffin as a reserve tender until August 1972 and Pelias as a berthing ship until June 1970.
