This highly-versatile aerial target supports a variety of mission requirements by carrying a wide array of internal and external payloads including proximity scoring, Identification Friend or Foe (IFF), passive and active RF augmentation, electronic counter-measures, infrared (IR) augmentation (plume pods), chaff and flare dispensers, and towed targets.

The BQM-177i is the international variant of the US Navys newest and most advanced Sub-Sonic Aerial Target (SSAT). While the BQM-177i provides formidable threat emulation for air-to-air engagements, its aerodynamic design and unmatched performance capabilities make it the worlds best choice for highly-dynamic, high-subsonic, sea-skimming anti-ship cruise missile threat emulation.

BQM-177A, the US Navys next-generation subsonic aerial target (SSAT) reached initial operational capability (IOC) in March 2019 and was now ready to begin land-based operations in Point Mugu, California. When it reaches full operational capability, it will conduct both land and ship-based operations.
