Notes:

- The Commander, US Naval Forces Europe (COMUSNAVEUR) is dual-hatted as the Commander, US Naval Forces Africa (COMUSNAVAF). This individual is also designated as NATO's Commander, Allied Joint Force Command, Naples.

- US Air Forces Africa (AFARICA) has no assigned units. The 617th Air Operations Center was established following the beginning of Operation Odyssey Dawn to provide such support to AFRICOM. It was colocated with the 603rd Air Operations Center, the AOC for US Air Forces in Europe (USAFE), who provided the facilities and other support for the functioning of the 617th AOC.

- The USS Mount Whitney remained the location of the command element for US forces after the transition to Operation Unified Protector. The command element includes personnel from US Army Africa (USARAF).

- In the press briefing on 21 April 2011, neither Secretary of Defense Robert Gates or Vice Chairman of the Joint Chiefs of Staff Gen. James E. Cartwright specified exactly what type of "Predator" was involved in operations over Libya. This term could cover the MQ-1B Predator and/or MQ-9A Reaper (also referred to as "Predator B").
