Northern Edge

Northern Edge 2000

Northern Edge 2000 ran from February 28 through March 10, 2000. Approximately 10,000 active duty, reserve, and guard airmen, soldiers, sailors, Marines, and coastguardsmen from the Pacific Region and throughout the continental U.S. participated, either as aggressor forces or as part of a joint task force responding to a simulated border dispute and invasion between two fictional countries.

During Northern Edge 2000, there were a number of live-fire exercises, an airborne operation, and multiple close air support missions flown. The FAST conducted anti-terrorist operations and security; the U.S. Navy explosive ordnance disposal teams ensured harbor security. A robust theater missile defense cell took part in the exercise by conducting antiballistic missile operations against a simulated attack. Global Hawk, an unmanned aerial vehicle (UAV), made its first appearance in Northern Edge providing battlefield commanders with near real-time aerial imagery.
