NOTES

    * - These numbers were as of 27-28 August 2008, and represented US miltiary and civilian contract personnel involved in training Georgian military personnel who had not been evacuated following the August conflict between Georgia and Russia. Troops involved in the Immediate Response 2008 exercise in Georgia that concluded in July 2008 had already been redeployed. These included 1,000 troops from the Southern European Task Force (Airborne), based at Vicenza, Italy; and elements of the 21st Sustainment Command at Kaiserslautern, Germany; 3rd Battalion, 25th Marines (Marine Reserve); and 1st Battalion, 121st Infantry ([US State of] Georgia National Guard).

    * - The Tarawa Expeditionary Strike Group wrapped up its operations in June 2008.
