  • BAE Systems Hits Delivery Milestone for Thermal Weapon Sights BAE Systems 22 Aug 2011 -- BAE Systems has now delivered its 100,000th thermal weapon sight to the U.S. Army in support of military operations in Iraq and Afghanistan. The sights are widely used on rifles, machine guns, and mounted weapon systems, providing soldiers with the ability to acquire and engage targets independent of darkness and common battlefield obscurants.
  • Boeing Receives UK Contract for 14 New Chinooks Boeing 22 Aug 2011 -- Boeing [NYSE: BA] has received a $1.64 billion (£1 billion) contract from the UK Ministry of Defence (MOD) to provide 14 new CH-47 Chinook helicopters and associated support for the first five years to the Royal Air Force (RAF).
  • Boeing CONECT Upgrade Successful in Flight Test Aboard B-52 Boeing 22 Aug 2011 -- Boeing [NYSE: BA] on Aug. 3 successfully completed an evaluation flight of the B-52 Combat Network Communications Technology (CONECT) interphone system. The six-hour flight from Edwards Air Force Base, Calif., evaluated the interphone system's readiness for formal flight tests and accomplished formal flight tests of other CONECT capabilities. The interphone system enables crew members to communicate with one another, other aircraft and the ground.
  • General Dynamics Awarded $33 Million for Common Missile Compartment Development and Submarine Repair Work General Dynamics 22 Aug 2011 -- General Dynamics Electric Boat has received two U.S. Navy contract modifications with a combined value of $32.9 million to continue development of the Common Missile Compartment for the next-generation strategic deterrent and to support nuclear-submarine repair work. Electric Boat is a wholly owned subsidiary of General Dynamics (NYSE: GD).
  • Lockheed Martin Team Begins Construction of Nation’s Next Littoral Combat Ship Lockheed Martin 22 Aug 2011 -- A Lockheed Martin [NYSE: LMT]-led industry team has begun construction on the nation’s fifth Littoral Combat Ship (LCS) at Marinette Marine. The team plans to deliver LCS 5, the future USS Milwaukee, to the U.S. Navy in 2014.
  • Additional Northrop Grumman Viper Strikes With Moving Target Capability Being Added to KC-130J Arsenal Northrop Grumman 22 Aug 2011 -- Northrop Grumman Corporation (NYSE:NOC) has been awarded a contract for additional Viper Strikes munitions to equip the U.S. Marine Corps Harvest Hawk aircraft and bring greater utility to the Marines' KC-130J refueling and cargo aircraft.
  • Raytheon Continues Ship Self-Defense System Open Architecture Hardware Deliveries Raytheon 22 Aug 2011 -- Raytheon Company (NYSE: RTN) delivered the 28th Ship Self-Defense System (SSDS MK 2) hardware ship set ahead of schedule. The ship sets will be installed on new ships and will also upgrade legacy combat management systems on in-service ships, bringing them up to U.S. Navy-certified open architecture (OA) standards.
  • SAIC Awarded $19 Million Contract by U.S. Naval Research Laboratory (NRL) SAIC 22 Aug 2011 -- Science Applications International Corporation (SAIC) (NYSE: SAI) announced today it was awarded a prime contract by the U.S. Naval Research Laboratory (NRL) to provide engineering and physical life sciences research and development services in support of the NRL Chemistry Division. The single-award contract has a one-year base period of performance, four one-year options, and a contract ceiling value of more than $19 million if all options are exercised. Work will be performed primarily at NRL facilities in Washington, D.C.
  • 2nd Boeing-built GPS IIF Satellite Enters Service with US Air Force Boeing 22 Aug 2011 -- Boeing [NYSE: BA] today announced that the second of 12 GPS IIF satellites the company is building for the U.S. Air Force has achieved operational acceptance and entered service. With testing complete, GPS IIF-2, now called SVN-63, is the newest satellite to join the active 31-satellite GPS constellation operated by the Air Force 50th Space Wing and the 2nd Space Operations Squadron at Schriever Air Force Base, Colo.
