- Officials: Afghan Peace Council Slowly Moving Toward Official Talks with Taliban VOA 16 Oct 2010 -- Officials with Afghanistan's new peace council say they are in the early stages of beginning a process to negotiate peace with Taliban militants. This comes a day after the commander of U.S. and NATO forces in Afghanistan, General David Petraeus, said NATO has facilitated the safe passage of Taliban leaders to Kabul for talks with the Afghan government.
- Blast Hits Afghan Police Compound, 1 Dead VOA 16 Oct 2010 -- Afghan officials say a bomb blast near a police compound in the southern city of Kandahar has killed at least one civilian. Officials add that at least four other people were wounded in the explosion.
