  • U.S. Troops Enter Samarra, Inflict Heavy Insurgent Losses RFE/RL 01 Oct 2004 -- U.S. and Iraqi forces pushed into the rebel Iraqi stronghold of Samarra today to wrest control of the northern town from insurgents.
