- 26th MEU completes first '04 amphibious exercise USMC News 01 Sep 2004 -- After nearly 11 months ashore, the 26th Marine Expeditionary Unit recently found itself right back where it ended its last deployment, aboard the USS Iwo Jima in Onslow Bay. The consortium was chosen in February as one of the three final bidders. The preferred bidder is expected to be announced in December 2004, followed by negotiations with the Galileo Joint Undertaking in 2005.
