
ATK Rocket Motors Help Place Classified Payload in Orbit

Minneapolis, September 1, 2004 – Four ATK (NYSE: ATK) CASTOR® IVA strap-on solid rocket motors helped successfully launch a Lockheed Martin Atlas IIAS vehicle from Cape Canaveral Air Force Station, Florida, yesterday. The Atlas IIAS carried a classified payload for the National Reconnaissance Office to orbit.
ATK Thiokol has produced CASTOR® IVA strap-on boosters for the Lockheed Martin Atlas IIAS since 1993 with 100-percent launch success rate. Two of the motors ignited at launch to provide initial thrust. The remaining two motors ignited approximately one minute into the flight.
