All security operations will operate from the Mosul JCC where a representative from every security force element will be stationed to facilitate coordination.

  • Violence Strikes Iraqi Cities of Arbil, Baquba RFE/RL 26 Jun 2004 -- A car bomb exploded near a college in the northern Iraqi-Kurdish city of Arbil today, killing at least one person. Kurdish officials say some 40 people were wounded.

  • AFGHANISTAN/ELECTION/VIOLENCE VOA 26 Jun 2004 -- In Afghanistan, a bomb attack has killed three people, including two women election workers, and wounded at least 12 others. The violence comes only days before a NATO summit in Turkey considers Afghan President Hamid Karzai's request for increased security for upcoming national elections.

  • NATO Summit to Focus on Outreach, Transformation AFPS 26 Jun 2004 -- Defense Secretary Donald H. Rumsfeld arrived here today to attend the NATO Istanbul Summit, the 17th in NATO's history.
  • Statement by NATO Secretary General NATO 26 Jun 2004 -- Today, NATO Ambassadors reached an initial agreement to respond positively to the request of the Iraqi Interim Government for assistance with the training of its security forces, in accordance with UN Security Resolution 1546.

  • Lockheed Martin Terminates Merger Agreement with the Titan Corporation Lockheed Martin 26 Jun 2004 -- Lockheed Martin Corporation (NYSE: LMT) announced that it has terminated the merger agreement with The Titan Corporation because Titan did not satisfy all the closing conditions on or before June 25, 2004. Under the terms of the amended merger agreement, either party could terminate the merger agreement if Titan either (i) had not obtained written confirmation from the Department of Justice that the investigation of alleged Foreign Corrupt Practices Act (FCPA) violations was resolved as to Titan and the Department did not intend to pursue any claims against Titan; or (ii) Titan had not entered into a plea agreement on or prior to June 25, 2004, provided that the terminating party had not contributed to the failure to consummate the merger through a breach of its obligations in any material respect. Titan did not satisfy either requirement.
  • Atlas IIAS Launch Of NRO Payload Postponed Lockheed Martin 26 Jun 2004 -- The launch of an Atlas IIAS vehicle with a national security payload was postponed today because of a concern over launch vehicle avionics. Atlas engineers are conducting additional tests to confirm that avionics on the rocket are free from an anomaly discovered on another unit in the factory.

  • KASHMIR/VIOLENCE VOA 26 Jun 2004 -- In Indian Kashmir, suspected Islamic militants have shot dead 10 people and wounded 12 others. The attack comes a day before India and Pakistan open talks on the disputed region that has been wracked by 15 years of violence.
  • IVORY COAST / PEACE TALKS VOA 26 Jun 2004 -- Ivory Coast's President Laurent Gbagbo has invited leaders of the seven opposition and rebel groups to a meeting next week in an effort to reconstitute the defunct power-sharing government of national unity. The groups accepted the invitation on Saturday.
