US Steps Up Campaign to Capture al-Zarqawi

The U.S. military in Iraq says it has stepped up its campaign to hunt down wanted terrorist Abu Musab al-Zarqawi.

U.S. Brigadier General Mark Kimmitt told reporters Saturday that the Jordanian-born extremist is the "number one target inside" Iraq.

The Zarqawi network has claimed responsibility for numerous deadly attacks in Iraq, and at least two beheadings of foreign civilians.

General Kimmitt appealed to Iraqis for information on the militant. Posters and leaflets publicizing the $10 million bounty on his head will be displayed across the country.

American forces have conducted three air strikes this week in Fallujah against suspected safehouses used by the Zarqawi terror network. General Kimmitt said that an airstrike Friday may have narrowly missed killing the terrorist.
