- SRI LANKA CENSORSHIP Voice of America 07 November 1999 -- The Sri Lankan government has imposed censorship on war news after major losses by the military in its civil war with the Tamil Tiger rebels. The government information department says imposition of censorship is in the national interest and to stop dissemination of false information.
- CONGO REBELS Voice of America 07 November 1999 -- Rebel leader Jean-Pierre Bemba, of the Congolese Liberation Movement says the truce which went into effect in August has been violated so many times by the government that it no longer applies.
- RUSSIA/CHECHNYA/POL Voice of America 07 November 1999 -- Senior Russian generals have served notice that they will not be stopped short of a complete military victory in Chechnya. Military commanders appear to be acting independently in the absence of strong political leadership in the Kremlin.
