615th Air Mobility Operations Group [615th AMOG]
The 615th Air Mobility Operations Group[AMOG] is one of only two such units in the United States Air Force.
The organization is tasked to deploy worldwide on short notice. The AMOG is an expanding force to Air Mobility Command's Global Reach Laydown enroute structure and is responsible for planning and controlling air mobility operations and assets in support of US Transportation Command assigned contingency and humanitarian relief operations.
AMC's strategy requires it to enable laying down additional en route infrastructure to meet the demands put upon it during any particular mobility operation. Like other commands, AMC is in the midst of a drawdown with the number of overseas units and locations from which AMC will operate decreasing. AMC's need to structure itself to deal with situations that continue to call for rapid deployment and movement of critical DOD aircraft, cargo, and passengers has resulted in the concept of Global Reach Laydown (GRL).
This Global Reach Laydown (GRL) strategy uses resources from various organizations and brings them together to form those deployed organizations required to achieve the specific objectives of any particular mobility operation. These resources are also used to expand already existing AMC presence or establish AMC presence and infrastructure where none exists. Thus, the En Route System (ERS) can effectively be tailored to changing mobility requirements and individual crises.
This group of Airmen is tasked to deploy worldwide, on short notice, as the cadre for the Air Mobility Command's Global Reach Laydown, in both peacetime and wartime operations.
AMOG units include command and control, aerial port, maintenance and communications and is composed of over 600 personnel and assets valued at over $37 million while its annual operating budget is $10 million.
The mission of the 615th Air Mobility Operations Group is to provide professional deployment teams to rapidly extend Air Mobility infrastructure to meet America's worldwide objectives.
