Alfa Company, NMCB 40

ALFA Company is trained, ready, and capable to deploy and provide equipment support for Contingency Construction, Tactical Operations, Disaster Recovery, and Humanitarian Assistance. This company is responsible for the operation and maintenance of the automotive, construction and material-handling equipment assigned to the Battalion. ALFA Company also serves as the prime contractor for large earthmoving, grading, excavation, paving, hauling, pile driving, well drilling, heavy lifting, blasting, and demolition projects.

ALFA Company is the Construction Battalion's "motor pool" and backbone. The largest component of the Battalion, it operates and maintains a vast array of construction and light tactical equipment. Its machinery enables the Battalion to complete its mission in both peacetime and in contingency environments. During the homeport cycle the company trains in equipment operation and maintenance as well as general military skills. All of this training culminates in a deployment and the ability to respond to a contingency "Anywhere, Anytime".

The largest and proudest of all the companies, ALFA Company is comprised mostly of Construction Mechanics (CM) and Equipment Operators (EO). There are also a few Hull Technicians (HT), Construction Electricians (CE), Steel Workers (SW), and Machinery Repairmen (MR) to assist with any special needs and Civil Engineer Corp (CEC) Officers to head things up. Sometimes referred to as "ALFA Battalion", due to its size, the company enjoys an unparalleled esprit de corp. On the tactical end, all company personnel complete a battery of personal survivability skills. These include marksmanship, weapons training, Chemical, Biological, Radiological avoidance, first aid, communications, tactics, and much more. Most of this training culminates in the annual Field Exercise (FEX) but is also perpetuated throughout the deployment. The company also performs Maritime Preposition Force (MPF) training. MPF places Battalion equipment on ships that are forward deployed. If a contingency situation arose, ALFA Company would be tasked with preparing the equipment for off-load prior to the ship's arrival and then offloading the equipment upon arrival.
