Naval Construction Force
Seabee's provide responsive military construction support to Navy, Marine Corps and other forces during military operations. They construct base facilities and conduct defensive operations. In addition to standard wood, steel, masonry and concrete construction, the Seabee's also perform specialized construction such as; erect and provide public works support to Fleet Hospitals (during wartime), construct, inspect and repair ocean facilities (e.g. wharves, piers, moorings, boat ramps, etc), water well drilling and battle damage repair. They are able to work and defend themselves at construction sites outside of their base camp and convoy through unsecured areas. In times of emergency or disaster, they conduct disaster control and recovery operations.
The name Seabee is synonymous with immediate response to worldwide contingencies, and for six decade Seabees have remained ever vigilant and on call to deploy wherever and whenever needed. In recent years, Commander in Chiefs of Area Theaters have called upon the Seabees' technical and combat capabilities in support of work in Bosnia, Albania, Kosovo, and southwest and southeast Asia. Seabees superb flexibility in rendering humanitarian and disaster recovery assistance remains a unique and highly valued capability to those recipients of the Seabees efforts. Thousands of people assisted by Seabees around the world applaud not only the unit's mission readiness, but their sense of compassion as well.
